Pop a little flat blade in and unbuckle them. Shouldn't be much bother after your rear end re-build!!

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
Just finished replacing the cam shaft timing chain and tensioner plastic pads on the S2. Took quite a while but not as difficult to do as I feared. I found an easy way to mark the exhaust cam position very accurately and the camshaft sprocket position, using a stanley knife blade as a jig and scribing around it on the edge of the cylinder head. The inlet cam setting is done by the marked cam chain links, but I marked it up anyway as insurance. There after its a careful nut and bolt job. All back together again with new water pump, belts, pulleys etc. sounds lovely. Need to replace some brake pipes then its off to the mot tester.

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
The 968 was first on the list today
So the ICV came off in the end - hacksaw made short work of the hose clips....
Looking inside it, there's a lot of crud...

Looks like someone has tried to seal this previously

so a bit of Gunk later it's flushed out although I think a parts washer could have made things even better.

Tested the valve with a battery using 12v +ve to the middle pin and -ve to each outer pin in turn... couldn't hear any click of the solenoid/ motor or see any movement.... but it was really noisy where I was and difficult to see inside whilst not touching +ve to -ve!

Refitted the cleaned out valve and it didn't really make any difference at all to the difficult starting. Without any throttle it simply would not fire. With a very small amount of throttle it eventually fired up and idled quite ok initially but then became rough again. Blipping the throttle almost stalled it.
Gradually opening the throttle and she revs up fine and then settles down at idle again... Slightly lumpy still but not as bad...
Took her out on a run and gave it some revs in 1st and 2nd and after a few stop/ starts in traffic and getting home the idle is fine settling around 950 to 1000rpm.
My thoughts are that the test in the valve whilst still full of crud didn't tell me anything but have cleaned it out and it being used by the car, effectively freeing itself a touch could have solved the issue...
I may be wrong yet but I'll try her again in the morning to see if the problem is still there.... Let's see what tomorrow brings!
Rothmans 924 was next to remove the rear seats for Stef and Gareth to put in their next project!

The 944 wipers will be next but for now we're off to Oulton park in the Rothmans for some rallying and fireworks

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
Went to a dyno day today. Was really curious to see if after 30 years and 177,000 miles it had lost any power. Safe to say I was very chuffed with the result.

The only modifications to the engine as such are a chip and dansk stainless exhaust. I have however also done just about every serviceable job to the engine so it should be running really well, and is according to the bloke doing the dyno.

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
re Blackadder30, when you put voltage on the ICV you can really feel it move. It operates with a very noticable jolt opening or closing. Sounds like yours may be bust.

Question is.... Mine has the outlets at 90 degrees to each other yet some of the ones on the bay are straight through... i.e. Opposite each other... Does anyone know if there are issues with this in the fitment on the car?

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
The wrong in out pipe config will not allow it to fit
You have to use the right one, not necessarily off a Porsche
There are a couple of Bmw ones that fit, also a Hyundai Lantra 2.0 one that works and is about £30 brand new
If I was fit Chris you could post me yours and I would see if it was fixable
But we can do that another time
I can't remember if the icv pins are live centre and earths outer pins or the other way round, but if working should give you a pretty loud click and you should be able to feel it move

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
My new ICV has arrived but I had other things to do today so will aim to fit this tomorrow.
As well as trying to fit my Saratoga roof panel (more in the appropriate thread) I took a trip to Unit Eleven with a mate who's recently bought a 944 Cab and is getting them to do belts, rollers, water pump, etc....

As ever there were some lovely machines in the workshop.

I've also booked mine in for belts, rollers, water pump, etc. and also to get them to check the cam sprockets, cam chain and slipper pads. I have all the bits and pieces and gaskets bar the mushroom collars for the cam cover bolts which John said would also have to be replaced. Is this correct? as I've not seen anything on any of our threads re these needing to be renewed - certainly weren't changed when the condition report and first service was done at Lodge Porsche Specialists when I originally got the car.... Interested in thoughts on this....
For now, she is tucked up under her car cover

Yes that's the same unit I replaced my 968 OEM unit with, some 6 years ago. For that price I've just grabbed one too!, as my car is playing up in the idling dept at the mo....blackadder30 wrote:Cheers Martin - I have also found this one... listed for 928 but does also suggest BMW M3... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252341671960
