Gives us all something to strive for...is that engine support rail powdercoated?

progress is slow decided to move house i need a double garage so mainly decorating ready for the sale but had chance to refurb a few parts :D

AFM had a bead bath then a coat of polytrol :D

as you can see the headlight wiring harness was not the best so I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and buy a direct wiring harness ....5 mins install, totally reverseable what could go wrong :lol:

OK well it fits but just looks totally wrong..
1,firstly the wires will not go through the OEM weather proof caps
2,wires are far too long and the insulation looks cheap and nasty
3.live does not reach the battery or the alternator

so here starts the 5 mins install :lol:
firstly cut all the wires to the correct length and added connectors to allow the light protection boots to be used, covered everything in heat shrink....starting to look better

now the harness comes with a small mounting plate and inline fuses which do not look exactly Porsche quality so I laser cut a mounting plate and powdercoated matt black

Sorry for the long post but it's only a 5 min job :D

mounted it on the existing brackets........took me a little over 6 mins I guess I'm a bit slow :lol:

refurbished the main harness although the car ran perfectly just about every injector had a damged or broken wire

I bought that same direct headlight wiring harness. It fitted much more easily in mine, presumably as the battery is at the front, and also I wasn't going for an OEM look.

Back from holiday in Mexico ...major jet lag I don't normally suffer but got it bad [:@]

best cure for jet lag a nice easy bit of Porsche restoration so I decided to refurb the wiper motor assembly ...

opened up the motor assembly to find

the bearing was toast :(

pulled the bearing off the shaft it is a 26x10x8 steel shielding new one ordered at £2.95 same make (made in England)

pulled the magnets cleaned out all the rust and treated with corrosion X aviation

can not find the pop rivet gun so will complete it tomorrow but for now cleaned everything, replaced rubber bushes and fitted some of my re-plated bits

finished the hardest job ever :(

rebuilt the engine harness changed all the plug's injector, crank sensor, knock sensor etc


used the latest style plugs they seem to be stronger, despite the harness being in good condition and the car was running well every injector plug had a broken/cracked wire so I'm glad I did this ....no longer available so rebuild is the only option

not much done today starting putting the interior back the door cards were lshowing there age fixings loose as the card disintergrates

I've tried in the past to fix with fibreglass etc but it never lasts so I made some aluminmum brackets

fixings go right through to the other side ...they are not coming out :D

Hmm I've been wondering about that wiring kit for my S2. The manufacturer claims all is perfect but haven't answered my email about rear battery location. Did you run from the alternator instead? For an electrical illiterate like me, what terminal do you connect to if that's what you did? I can't imagine running a wire back to the battery is a small job.

The kit is designed to fit cars with the battery in the engine bay if you use on a later car it will need to go to the alternator
You have to either cut the weather proof cap on the back of the headlight or add a connector as I did

Well made kit use not a perfect fit on later cars IMHO.

if I was doing it again I would make it from scratch you can buy relays with fuses built in so could be very neat option, a good auto electrician could make a harness and fit it for you

My climate control unit was in good condition but the clear plastic bit was badly cracked (bottom one)

so I purchased a cheap Non air con one for £40 delivered which has a near perefct clear bit, these are NLA from Porsche so used seems to be the only option

destroyed the unit getting the clear bit off without braking any of the little clips

easy job to change the switches over and re-assemble :D
