My 944 restoration picture thread

Have you noticed there seems to be a lack of pictures in most posts

to rectify this situation and celebrate the fact that my car comes back from the spray shop tomorrow after 5 weeks I thought I would detail the process of putting the car back together....

This is not a guide, in fact I have never even serviced car let alone anything else, it is more of a story...

started with the tailgate, following Dychela's thread I removed the glass from the frame(4 hours work), the frame was then powdercoated matt black (it looks great). I purchased the Kit from Wayside Adhesives and set about priming the glass and adding the black body primer.
Then the dreaded black sticky stuff, I got this on my hands it took almost a week to remove all of it......Its not perfect but I'm happy with it

Back to the tailgate.....Like most 944's with bridge spoilers the little brackets fall of the tailgate side trims ....tried various glue's and I did manage to get them to stay on, but dispite buying new seals this part never seems to look right.....

I decided to do my own thing

I covered the edge of the tailgate with masking tape, then removed all the old brackets from the side trims and drilled holes through them so they can be bolted on......I then filled the trims with fibreglass body filler and bolted then to the tailgate thus moulding them exactly to the glass ........this process was repeated 3 times along with lots of sanding to create a sold part ........I then fibreglassed stainless steel bolts into the part, sanded and painted ........I will bond and bolt these into place .....

I think it gives a more streamlined effect without the seal......the top tailgate trim was powdercoated matte black.....to match

this took me 4 days but I'm pleased with the result

I like the fact that I have now got the black line around the glass even though it is not perfect....

I repainted the black edges of the tailgate on my old 944S with black glass paint from Hobbycraft, scrapped the old paint off, masked up the tailgate and painted the glass with 2 coats, didn't look too bad, unfortunately I have no piccies

Looks good with the tear drop mirrors ...........christmass is coming

For me, the mirrors are biggest single change to these cars that really transforms the look. I'd like a pair for my turbo too. Not cheap at £300 though plus I bought 968 handles and forged Turbo alloys at the same time (and then a repaint).

That looks a really good job. I've just got myself a bridge spoiler tailgate thy needs a bit of new paint. You may have just inspired me to take it apart an get it powder coated instead.

Thanks for the comments, but it's not a blessing more of a disorder ...OCD.

this evening I was was off to teach my class and I spotted a 968.....so I followed it as he stopped I jumped out of my car in full Karate get up ......"Hi Mate can I have a look at your tailagte latches"...I think he was a bit shocked ...if it was anyone on here thanks very much.......

Lots of Karate stuff this week so will not be alble to do much until the weekend ...however I get the doors back on Thursday they have been stripped and electrophoreticly primmed

Looks great, i have just had the front end of my black car painted, it looks great but already has some fine marks if looked at under flourescent light, just touching the bloody thing can mark it......GRRR !
3M Finesse is great for removing the little marks and swirls though.
I could live with teardrop mirrors but not the later door handles though.

Ive been quoted 250 quid to fit stonechip protection to the front ...but I'm in two minds
just had my early door handles powdercoated, and the mirrors painted ...wife would kill me if I changed them
Haven't told her about the new wheels
