Stripped everything from the rear end, got some painting and cleaning to do before I can start putting it back together again......Fuel lines were starting to rust ....so I'm replacing every fuel line hard and soft lines just incase



Brake lines were not too bad ...I really did not want aftermarket ones and OPC wanted £300+ to replace them so I removed the small amount of rust which had formed at every clamp location ...then zinc primer, and 2K green epoxy ........and just to be sure I covered them in adhesive lined heat shrink....water, oil, petrol resistant

Those fuel lines looked close to springing a leek.

Is the heat shrink a good idea though? I wouldn't have thought you could get a good enough seal to stop the water getting in and capillary reaction will move the water all the way along where its never going to dry out. This means that your brake lines will be sitting in a pool of water all the time.

The heat shrink is lined with Adhesive that activates when heated....I'm confident that it is sealed the entire length

I'm picking up the plated parts on Friday so Will pop them in post

With the adhesive it it the heat shrink makes sense. I should have know better than to question it. lol

Went to OPC today and picked up all my new plastic trim piece's ......good job it's Easter so I can get it on the road

Great stuff, i'm looking to change all that on mine as for some reason they've gone brown! I wouldn't need the tray as bought a new one of those but how much roughly was the rest?

personally I just brush grease on my lines, and during an annual service i jet was the underside of the car and then regrease them.

Not sure if you will have MOT issues when it comes to the brake line inspection.

You should get it all for £140 the big bits tend to be cheap the little bits expensive
they all go brown I treat mine with poor boys matte dressing to protect from the UV

I'm told not...... they only inspect what is visible

Thats not bad actually, I need the side dash vents as well, i'll be ordering soon!

Had a good weekend treating,cleaning and painting
presure washed the underside then treated with salt neutraliser and scrubbed, then rust converter followed buy red oxide to all the brackets and suspension mounts

I used 2K on all these parts then I coat of Dinitrol ...very pleased with the results





I then cleaned all the wiring and plastic fuel pipes

Very similar, I've been cleaning it inside and jet washed the underside for half an hour with detergent to remove any salt.

I've been driving it to get everything run in before I hit the drag strip. 250miles in a week and I can feel it coming alive. apart from the steering. Massive clunking and lots of play from the inner track rod ends. Are they available?

Well that was yesterday and this is today

Whilst the missus was doing a spot of reading earlier I thought id see how salvageable my rims are.

An old photos shows they are almost gun metal grey



I need to get hold of a couple of extra sheets of different grade of paper as i think my steps are to large at the moment.





Still a few blemishes to remove on the lip, and obviously the whole inner of the rim to go. But the results are some what pleasing

Whilst on a road a trip to pick up some bits for his golf Ian too the gearknob and boot out for me to replace this horrible thing.



I havent been able to change the knob its self, i think its been glued on. But I stretched that new boot around the plastic and it looks smarter.

Ha! Wouldn't work these days. All boy racer cars are FWD.
