Hi not been on here for a long time ,but anyway i was wondering about side skirts on my 944 s2 ,to hide the surface rust

Anyway a lot are ugly as hell, but theres a firm in the states called Fibrewerks that do a nice looking skirt that follows the original hour glass side of the car

Anybody fitted these or delt with the company ? or what other side skirts can u recommend

Many thanks Mark

Looking in 2 this as well, started 2 get some rust and bubbles, only had the car resparyed under a year ago as well! :(

Last time I asked the postage was the same a sill cost. So quite pricey. I'm going 2 replace the metal 1st and treat the inside sill 4 rust while theres acesse.

Thinking off making some thing else work, or find someone 2 make me some. The look I would be going 4 would be the same as the ones you mention, maybe tweaked slightly more towards d new astion matin style. Got a few pics which I will up load when I can .

I have side skirts on my early car, they can look really good when installed correctly

Beware, the skirts can hide the sills rusting away

I think that's what the OP is actually trying to do! Best all round is simply to bite the bullet and replace the sills especially if you are in it for long term ownership. Alternatively, sell your car. I personally think that a large number of prospective owners are "turned off" the sideskirts for fear of "what lies beneath...."

I must admit the box ones look ok in that pic, but what I don't like is when u open the door u got this large sill, 2 step over. I think some cover sills could mean that the metal sill repaire don't need 2 be visually apealing, function over beauty, and there for could be done by your self. I think I will attempted mine. Plus are use silghtly thicker gauge steal. 1.2mm seems 2 rust though easy. Thicker steel can be left rusty without 2 much worry.

I received my "968" style rockers from Deutschnine and just waiting for rubber gasket part no. Will be getting my black 944 cab rust treated and will put these babies on, then respray and poss rear spoiler too.

http://www.deutschnine.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=porsche-transaxle&Category_Code=porsche-transaxle-944-turbo-s2-aero-dynamics

Took a while, guys mould them to order but I was not in such a big rush as 944 is slowish project.

Will post pics once sorted. :)

Cheers

P

Ok thanks for replys ,yeh the box type ones ,which are on ebay dont look to bad on cars with bigger wheels , but i wouldnt be suprised if theres a big gap looking up from underneath the car allowing dirt to get in and cause more damage {or do they fit flush with the bottom line of sill?}

I am i panel beater by trade . the sills on my car are in pretty good shape , but with rust bubbling through underseal/stone gaurd .The car on its original sills ,and i dont want to be hacking the car for that kind of rust

I did one side a few years ago it looked ok when i did it , but within six months of wet weather driving rust started bubbling

through ,and now its worse than ever

Those ones on the fibrewerks website look so much better than the cheap box section ones and also probably fit better

Has anybody used any of this anti rust paint u can get POR i think its called ,sand down the stonegaurd apply that primer then put the stone guard over that, followed by paint

Mark

Heres a pic of Fiberwerkshttp://www.fiberwerks.com/_borders/1989%20944%20S2.jpg

Thats what porsche should have put on the cars to begin with especially S2 turbo cars .Im sure they fitted side skirts to the 968 because of the rust issues they had with 924/944 .Incidently can original 968 skirts be fitted to a 944 or were the sills/quarters a totally different shape to accomadate them?

I take the copy 968 skirts fit totally different than the originals probably glued on

If the rust is bubbling through the underseal, there will be rot in there. Best to clean it up before you put any sill covers over or else the sill will be gone in under 2 years taking the inner strengthener and floor pan with it. Easy MOT fail as well as it rots around the main suspension mouting point. Catch it early and it is no problem, especially if you are a panel beater.

This is very sound advice. Rotten sills is what killed off my 944... Don't box them! Bite the bullet and get them replaced.

There is at least one dealer who sells his '44s on Pistonheads. Nearly all of them have the side skirts fitted. I wonder why?

There is a red S for sale up here in Jockland (JAZ5103 is the reg I think). I went to look at it a while back with a view to buying it for breaking. It was ROTTEN even in places I have not seen 944s rot in. It now supposedly has been repaired but wears 968 style box sills. Don't anyone buy that car unless you have a particular affinity for 0.8mm MIG wire and a new floorpan.

Ok thanks for pics have taken same pics of rust as well as pics from inside the B post .Concidering its 22 years old its not to bad doesnt warrent cutting sills off to renew them

Will pump a load of wax in the sills then redo the the stone gaurd and paint them {anybody recomend a wax },the stuff at work cavity wax probably isnt as good as say Finigans Waxoil

iv noticed that theres next to no wax in the sills maybe if Porsche had put wax in the sills to begin with {even though they are galvanised } then maybe there wouldnt of been problems with rusting sill
