The height adjusting nut and threaded sleeve is almost certainly seized in our climate.
In theory they can be freed with copious amounts of penetrating oil, heat, and patience. In practice better to buy replacements as you will probably dent the aluminium threads trying to get them off the old shocks anyway.
I've only changed rear shocks, but I think that if you change the fronts you will need the geometry re-aligned. Have seen write-up somewhere of procedure where realignment was not required so worth searching for it.
