the 964's are wired for daylight running lights, we just have to pop a relay and and its done... maybe yours are the same?

Rather than fooling the flasher with a resistor, why not buy a proper LED flash unit? only about £15... I just put one in mine.

Hi all,

Bit of update....after much faffing around, I've managed to install the amber and white strips and retain the bulb within the indicator unit. It's very tricky to capture in a piccie, but to answer concerns, the amber indication is still well visible with the white LED's. Not sure it's captured the bulb at its brightness but gives a reasonable idea

I've cut out the baffle/reflector in order to get them both to fit, with the result that the light better illuminates the lens. The prefered set up I have in mind is like this, but with single 1W LED in the original sidelight position and the white LED strip to cut out when the pods come up.

By retaining the indicator bulb as well, there's no need to bother with resistors. I'd be interested to know if you can get a suitable LED relay for the 944 for future projects - can anybody confirm?

So, here's a couple more pics - maybe a bit too Kitt for some tastes, but I rather like them.

Lindsay - I'd say your neighbour's son's experience is not unique...I dare say if I fitted these to a Saxo or similar wiv a 1000W ICE in da boot, I'd get a fail....quite right too

I had issues with 2 MOT testers when I had LED sidelights all said "too blue" And failed them.

Fair point Jim - but how do they decide? Is it just a subjective assessment or do they have a spectral analyser....somehow I think not.

The same must also apply to headlights surely, and yet I see suppliers of HID conversions offering them in temp ranges of 4300,6000,8000 and 10,000K which must have a huge difference in visible colour - I have to confess to being a bit confused on this one :?

Aren‘t aftermarket HID conversions automatic MOT fails in the UK anyway?

I've had 3 cars through MOTs over the last few years with HID kits on, ranging from 4300k to 8000k at 2 different garages, passed without question in all cases. No levellers or washers on any of them either.

I thought the HID's were only legal on the dips in the UK, that used to be the case I understand, which is why factory litronics were only on the dip with standard lamps on the main beam (thats whats on my car anyway)

I was only going to be using them for the dip beam as the main beam is within the separate combination lamp on the s.2/turbo, and since I also have levellers and washers, I'm guessing that'd be okay. It seems it's another area where alot of people have different understandings of the law on this.

Yesterday, I got my LED sidelights from Hong Kong and fitted them in addition to the strips....

Image

Nowhere near as bright as I was hoping, but matching colour and gives a better balance to the look.

The other thing I was trying to improve was the side visibility. I'm always nervous when nosing out blind, and with clear front lenses, they don't appear as visible as I would like. I hate this situation and am well aware that I've got 3-4 ft of wing sticking out before I can see anything coming. These are about 90 deg to the front of the car so you can see what I mean. Those of you with clear fronts might like to see how theirs look from this angle - you might be surprised

So, that just leaves these 2 pale moons to deal with

Derrick - thanks for the info on the flasher - I knew Ultraleds did them but didn't know they were suitable for our cars.

I've not got l.e.d. strips in my front/rear clear indicators, but these l.e.d. bulbs from ultraleds.co.uk. Not as cool looking as those strips, but they do the job and are probably easier to fit.

You also need this relay for them, but must have l.e.d.s fitted front and rear.

I'll have to try and take some pic's of them as fitted to the car.
