Linen. Who would have Linen 8WC? Even more tricky is Linen 8WC with Porsche script. I have not seen any 944's with a Linen interior and the Porsche script. There's plenty of them in plain Linen.

At one point, I thought I may start to assemble a complete plain linen interior and have done with it but I love the Porsche script. I even got some plain linen front seats - they're on the way to Edinburgh.

Now that my drivers seat is looking good and the passenger seat too, I have been on the lookout for various bits of carpet. The rear seat uppers were a headache: one side had a bit of torn vinyl and the carpet backs threadbare, just like the rear o/s wheel arch carpet and the boot carpet. Clean but threadbare in patches.
The main floor carpets since scrubbing and steam cleaning look more than presentable. Rear seat lowers are very good and always have been.
In the usual trawling fleabay for bits of carpet, two upper seat backs with Porsche script in linen (I kid myself not) came up. Seller 'only9nine'. A Guy called James who is in the Manchester area selling them. Filthy but intact and looking potentially good. With a discount of £10, I acquired them for £135 posted. Ordered Sunday, arrived today.
Now, I have done this before and it's always with mixed feelings as I have sent countless bits back and kept few - Douglas Valley Breakers sell tatt at stupid prices for example.
However, the seat uppers are excellent. I've cleaned them up, they're good.

There's hope for the rest of it. Time and patience. Moulded carpet sets were available at Rose Passion until about 2019(?) but the prices were eye watering and so this has been a 7 year process. I'm not looking to have a concours 944 because I like driving it too much. Just clean and fully functional will do me. Now all I need is a big can of rattle begone spray. As soon as the roofers have been and gone, it's getting jacked up on 4 axle stands and i'm going to pursue them relentlessly...

Rattles are the pure essence of a classic car, the radio and fan blower set to 4 remove all mine! In saying that, drivers door has developed a small rattle lately, I will investigate in better weather. I have spent 15 and a half years chasing rattles in my car, and won't be stopping any time soon!

Burgundy interior is the way to go. 175k miles and all my carpets and trim still look brand new. I had half leather (leatherette) Porsche script seats previously until a full leather set came up at a too good to refuse price. I also have a pair of brand new, yes brand new, door cards which I will fit at some point and go back to standard front speakers instead of the unsightly 6" round ones currently in place. I also have a spare burgundy dash, decent but not as good as the one in the car, got it free with the door card purchase which was £100 IIRC, bargain!

I regret passing up on a burgundy leather centre console a few years back, was about £150 if I recall on fleabay, an extremely rare option and likely never to be seen again sadly. Thankfully I didn't pass up on the burgundy CS steering wheel for £150 about the same time, these can be had in black for about £500 but in burgundy they are made of unobtanium. Much prefer it to the lozenge standard wheel.

Steve Strange @ DVB is a know no-go area in the Porsche community. Very overpriced and mostly poor quality fare. James Eacock @ OnlyNine is a good guy. Got a few things from him over the years.

Yesterday I replaced a blown rear fog light bulb, same as an indicator bulb and had a few new ones lying about, result! Also found a strange slightly damp patch on the boot floor, passenger side, under the carpet, near the rear seat, about a foot inwards of the wheel well. For the life of me I cannot work out how it is possible to get wet there. Carpet top bone dry but wet on the boot floor and underside carpet soundproofing stuff. It wasn't too bad and I dried it out. Will keep an eye.

My new fangled SUV blinding LED H4 headlight bulbs are due for delivery tomorrow. Looking forward to getting them fitted and see what I can see in the dark!

Nope, sorry, due for delivery tomorrow. I do however have my works Xmas do tomorrow, Friday will likely be a write-off and then my mates 50th bash on Saturday. Possibly fit them on Sunday, physical condition permitting!

Pi$$ing on your chips is likely going to be detrimental to your DME......I would not do that!

False dawn... bollox

So today was the day to fit the new LED headlight bulbs. I forgot how much of a pain in the tits it is to change the bulbs when you have levelling adjusters. You can't just unbolt the light unit from the front and it's just really awkward!

Anyway, fitted one bulb, looked nice and white and bright compared to the other yellowy one. My mate passed by so chatted to him for 5 mins before setting about putting the lamp cover and front surround back together. By this time the new bulb was flickering and not so bright. Damn. So I took it out and put the Osram Nightbreaker back on, all good, probably a duff bulb. Went to start to car, stone dead, less that 10v showing on the gauge. 5 mins with one of these LED bulbs on, with engine off, had sucked my battery dry! FFS!

Got a jump start and noticed the boot floor very wet, knew it was a bit wet, and had no idea why, but it was really wet now. Underside of boot carpet on OS soaking. Then I noticed my boot latch was dripping like a broken tap. Turns out the little catch tray that the drain fits on to was blocked with gunk, so all the water from the latch area has been pissing into my boot for god knows how long!

Anyway, a cheap fix and all back together now, boot carpet in the house to dry, and I'm none the wiser about the LED bulbs. Would one bulb on for 5/10 mins really suck a big heavy duty battery dry, or is something not right?

I cannot believe that the bulbs would draw that much current on an un modified loom. Did you have overheating wires?

Could you measure a current drop when switching them on?
What is the state of your battery and alternator?

Didn't notice any hot wires. Did not have a multi-meter out with me, it was pissing down and I don't have a garage!

Battery is a very new Youasa uprated one, and the alternator is mint. Started with a jump start then took it for a run last night. All good this morning. What happened is a mystery!

Boot also now dry and carpet nearly dry so chuffed with that!

Hi Stuart, what bulbs were they? I've fitted the Philips Ultinon in my BMW X3, no issues apart from a slight flicker when it does the bulb check when you first turn on the ignition. They should have a ballast resistor fitted in series with the LED to prevent it pulling too much current.

What to do on a filthy, windy, wet day in Scotland... hmm... go for a jolly in the bonnie Galloway hills! of course! Much fun on this, the shortest day.

Fitted the new clutch to my rebuilt 944 Turbo engine, another job down!

Dry carpet refitted today into a dry boot. Great help when the inside of the rear screen doesn't cover itself in moisture and fog up on every winter journey........the blue paper roll can be stood down!

I'll probably have another go with those bulbs when time and weather permits, maybe I had them on longer than 5/10 mins, I was fannying about sorting a few issues with the headlamp pod that had needed doing so the bulb may have been on for much longer with engine off and no charging than I thought. Next time I won't power them up with the engine off. Battery is back to rude health for the time being.
