Managed to fix my passenger side window so can now lock the car again.

And get out and drive it a bit more

Got stranded by a dud DME relay 100 yds form home. Towed the car back onto the drive and checked the 2 spares I had. Fortunately one worked!

Think I'd have walked home and got the spares though I always carry a jumper wire just in case.

While the car is waiting for its secondhand head to be refurbished, I decided to start to sort the lower bodywork out, removed the lower plastic trims from under the sills to allow access to a few areas or rust starting actually took around four hours to remove the plastic nuts with each one having to be split. Need to repair the bottom inside edge of the OS wing as this has rotted away and a couple of areas on the sill outers. But actually pleased with the quality of the rest of the underneath once I got the underseal off it only had some minor surface rust so no holes and no major repair needed.

Replaced fuel tank sender. Only partial success in getting my fuel gauge to work. Any advice? Next attempt will be to clean the grounds. Anyone know where it for the sender and dash gauge. I have tested the gauge and it works fine.

Fixed door support and replaced door card.

Replaced dashboard strip to fix cigarette lighter which was wobbly. Thought I'd broken the digital clock getting it out but checked the fuses and the one for the interior lights, cigarette lighter and clock had blown. Replaced and all now working. Sorted!

Went for a drive. Still a thrill. Annoyed at the 3 noises that are pretty much constant. Dash board squeak (stops when I hold the dash so a wedged bit of rubber will solve this). Rattling hatch (need to get those pins unseized). Tickling driver door.

When I took the door card off i noticed nuggets of glass in the bottom of the door, presumably from an earlier break in. Didn't think at the time but this is likely the source of the tinkling. Door card will be coming off and the glass hoovered out.

Yes, and he finally got around to signing up for TIPEC today... so that's one thing I did, but first I had a bit of a tinker and clean with the Cab... Not a bad bit of progress actually (and I might get around to doing a "hello, this is me" thread for some context), as I stripped the passenger door down, replaced the central locking actuator, greased the lock mech window mech and runners before cleaning the stripped door card and building it all back up before moving onto the driver's door. That one required the LED door pin rebuilding and the same cleaning process as the passenger (amazing what 22 years of door bin crud looks like...)

A good hoover out followed and a bit of topical carpet shampoo application to remove some dark marks. All the nooks and corners were cleaned and plastic trim mopped over. Looked much better.

Next up was the binnacle... that's been bugging me as the tripmeter didn't reset, the binnacle plastic was scratched and the lighting was woeful. Stripped the lot down and started by polishing the binnacle screen to get the worst of the previous two decades of scratching out. While it was in bits I popped the clocks out before re-foiling the reflectors for the illumination and applying a little WD-40 into the trip reset mech.

Didn't take too long to reassemble, and then the heavens opened... so I came in and signed up for TIPEC :D

Well I said my off side sill was actually good! Well the near side is absolute sh!t towards the rear section, all cut out today! it needs a section of inner sill replacing against the suspension mount but at least the mount looks solid and still well attached to the body! So tomorrow evening is going to be spent making up panels ready to weld in
But hey at least I'll know its all solid once done, the only thing that annoys me is there is obvious evidence of bodging being done before but the muppet who did it left all the rust in there to grow, with plenty of filler over it all..... To$$er!
As you can tell I'm well peeved but oh well the welding side of things should be done by the end of the week if I get the time!

I think a lot of us are suffering from cheap repairs that were probably "just to get it through the MOT". Previous owners may have thought they were buying a cheap Porsche as prices fell, but then couldn't afford the upkeep. Now that our cars are reaching classic cult status, they are owned by people with the time and money to look after them properly!

Anyway, today I took loads of rusty metal bracket thingies off the 924, brushed them back to recognisable metal, and painted them matte black.

Jump started the car (have a battery drain issue) and drove it to a mate's to narrow the oil leak down to a front seal.

Also managed to snap off the sunroof manual closing bolt head as it was seized...

Started rebuilding the passenger front window after replacing the electric motor and regulator.
Following Jon Jefferies thread, I was going to fibre resin the card at the bottom.
Realised the previous owners have bodge the drivers side door card so am a little stuck for a good looking solution to putting the cards back in place and matching on both sides. Will slowly sort out passenger side and probably need to look for new drivers card for winter project.

Replaced the bulb in my clock that I blew up in an unfortunate glove box light incident! Popped it out and thought that's the same as an instrument cluster bulb, how very nearly correct! Bulb the same but holder and metal bit slightly different. Managed to get the old bulb out the plastic holder and ditto for a spare instrument cluster bulb, snipped the top collars off the metal on the cluster bulb, popped it in the clock bulb holder and hey presto it worked! Very pleased with myself! :D

I do now need to glue the clock facia trim as the end that goes under the heater controls somehow became no longer attached despite me carefully screwing out the heater panel correctly. The efforts of a previous tinkerer not aware of the screws under the heater panel I fear!!

Fitted a roof rack to my Turbo. Well, what I actually did was slack off in the car park in the morning sunshine and carefully fit the roof rack to the car. Now that it fits I have removed it and stowed it in the garage.
