OEM BATTERY replacement - mine is dead!

Post by jao »

After a good drive around on Sunday I tried to start my car on Monday evening only to discover the battery was almost flat. After charging it for 24 hrs and putting a load tester on it this evening I now know its broke, its about dead!

Anyone know where I can get a Porsche OE replacement? I want a Porsche one as the car is under extended Porsche warranty and apparently they won't honour any claims if you have a non Porsche battery - voids your warranty!! Its reported on other forums they cost £200 and charge £90 to fit them!

Can I get one at a more reasonable cost from an Indy?

AFAIK they want the Porsche logo so that rules Bosch SIlvers & the like out. TIPEC membership should get at least 10% off a battery. Otherwise worth a ring around the standard people Type 911, Design 911,Porsche Shop etc.

You don't need the OPC to fit the battery, it takes less than 2 minutes.

I bought one for the 4S late last year, cost me £140 with discount.

Thanks, I'll fit the battery no problem, sounds like an OPC is the only option then. Do i just quote Tipec for the discount?

The OPC at Nottingham will honour discount for us, remind them when you order it. OPC batteries are gel packed and charged when you order them so it will be later in the day before you can pick it up.

The battery sits in a groove so you have to tilt it away from the windscreen to get the leading edge in and then drop it in. If you have a jump boost pack it's good to connect to the terminals as you take each one off to save you being deafened by the alarm during the changeover.

And if you don't have a jump pack just follow the correct procedure:

1) Leave the key in the ignition on position 1 (all the dash lights lit)
2) DO NOT close the door!
3) Disconnect the old battery
4) Reconnect the new battery
5) Wind window all the way down & back up again to reset position
6) Turn off ignition

No alarm will sound if this procedure is followed :D

Got hold of one from OPC tonight and fitted it Tipec discount etc - no issues, thanks for the advice.

Turns out I had the 70 amp battery fitted, I bought and fitted an 80 amp one, it's slightly larger but it fits fine.

I'm assuming there won't be a problem using the larger one, the difference being I should just have a bit more power in reserve?
