Renewal time

Post by Graham Waller »

Ever wondered why renewal notices don't contain last year's premium? Well wonder no more !!

2008/09 premium £302.90
2009/10 premium £474.47 - a rise of 56% :angryfire:

They kindly auto-searched and suggested an alternative quote of £430.51 (still 42% rise)

I did ring them :argue: , and I was politely told "Well indurance rates have increased sir", I replied " Not that much!! Cancel the policy :bootyshake: ".

I now find myself searching for insurance and can quite easily like-for-like cover (protected, full no claims, 6000 miles, garaged), and with a £100 lower excess for £301.90 - gone up my ar$e . And that includes declaring a no-fault accident ( :cussing: ) by the Mrs.!

I’ve been checking prices this week too. I made a claim last year for water damage to the engine, so expected my premium to rise.

My current insurers (T.R. Youngs) have quoted me exactly the same as last year. Roughly £380. Brilliant.

Half the other companies I phoned wouldn’t insure Jen as a named driver because she’s under 30. Most of the others wouldn’t insure me at all because their classic policies only cover second cars, and I no longer have two 944s …

Guess what my best quote was from anyone else who would actually offer the cover to match my current one?

£3,400!

Mine is with Hagarty good quote & one of the few that doesn't have an issue with it not being garaged.

I just couldn’t believe it. That was with a PCGB member discount applied too.

I’m used to hearing some silly quotes from insurers who clearly aren’t set up for my car/circumstances, but I was amazed how many of the ones who usually give me okay quotes flat out declined this year on grounds of me only having one car or my wife being too young!
