Car Covers
Hi, As a new member to the forum I was hoping some one would be able to point me in the right direction of a good outside car cover for a 996.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Car Covers
I'm not a big fan of outside car covers, I've seen them do more damage than they prevent.
A well waxed car that is regularly washed will stand up to the elements very well.

Re: Car Covers
Hi & Welcome Pepi
I'm not a fan of covers either, they have a habit of chaffing paintwork & can cause a LOT of damage.

Re: Car Covers
i have used covers on cars for the last 8 years, never had an issue, came back from a 250 mile round trip on sun, had a quick check, no dirt or muck and put it on, ready for the rain tomorrow

Re: Car Covers
I second that comment - strong wind + car cover = damage. A couple of coats of a good wax applied every couple of months and hand washing weekly using good shampoo and two bucket system should see you through the winter.Sean Smallman wrote:I'm not a big fan of outside car covers, I've seen them do more damage than they prevent.

Re: Car Covers
yep - don't like covers either
Get the car detailed / prepped correctly and the wax will bond well to the paint and last, if looked after

Re: Car Covers
another vote for no car cover....... i have one but only put it on when the car is clean. WHich of course is a real pain if you want to put it on after a drive.

Re: Car Covers
Well in the end I bought one from Halfords, all the logo ones were silly money Paid £60 quid for a the layer and have stuck a Porsche logo on it. It has mad a big difference as the condensation now collects on the car cover and no water marks after storage.

Re: Car Covers
Just be ultra aware that the edges can chaff and cause no end of scratching and swirl marks. I'll never forget the bloke at South Central (Malc) whose car was so bad because of the cover, he managed to get some sort of compensation from the company he bought the cover off.

Re: Car Covers
Hi,
I have a cheapo car cover that I use to have for a Peugoet 206
- strangely enough it fits my 944 perfectly. To stop any associated cover chaffing problems, I purchased about 5 of those cheap throwovers from Ikea (about £2.50) and put those on underneath the cover. The throwovers repel water very well - just seems to turn them to droplets and they roll off the blanket. Best thing is that you can twang them in the washer when they look a bit dirty. I've been using this system for the past 18 months with no deteriation of the paintwork and no scratchs.
Ben
