Alternator Charging Harness

Post by Waylander »

Hi All, having a poke round the engine bay just eyeball inspection I noticed.....

the nice big red/black is the solenoid actuator wire, the blue is the alternator exciter wire, now up the top here no real drama, down by the starter where the insulation is also failing this cable runs with the main battery cable, if these two get together for a brew, and the car is in gear, it will be off down the road on its own, without a key and probably locked too, if not in gear it will run the starter till it catches fire or the battery goes flat,

this harness for the 968 is now NLA, the only solution is to make one....
In progress,

And this is what happens when the insulation finally gives up, and the harness shorts out........

Very similar story at the local garage that have a 60'S Ford F150 in for work , all sat down for tea break when it had several attempts to start its self . Worth checking .
Yes it has gone quiet , thought everyone had gone of to facebook groups .

I've read about cars starting themselves. Must get out of the habit of leaving mine in gear. Pulled the undertray off yesterday, first time for ages. The steering pump belt tensioner was swinging in the wind.
