Winter battery maintenance

Hi all

As we approach the colder weather, I thought I would pop a charger/trickle charger on the battery to keep it topped up over the winter.

Having finally got to the battery, it seems like a bit of a faff to route the charger cables through the drivers side window so I can close the boot (to prevent the interior lights from staying on now I've fixed them), so I was curious to know what other people do, aside from taking the car on a few trips, to keep their batteries topped up?

Hardwire a flylead direct to the battery & lead it to a connector. Leave the connector up by the edge of the bonnet or elsewhere. Plug & unplug battery conditioner as required. As used by ever OPC for a start.

You run a flylead from the boot to the bonnet? Or is the battery in the front in your car?

Didn't realise it was a 928. I wrote assuming it was a 9xx with battery in the frunk.
No, just run it to an accessible point where you can easily plug in a conditioner & you don't have to dismantle anything.

On my 968 there is a join in the boot rubber seal with a narrow gap it just made for the lead from the battery (boot mounted) to the trickle charger. Shut the boot, lock the car plug the charger in.

Your 928 has a jump post front RHS of engine bay, under blue threaded cover. Connect the maintainer there and to convenient ground (Allen bolt for cross brace is handy) with the supplied croc clips. The bonnet will close on the leads with no stress, or just leave it not quite closed and they’ll be no additional drain or lights on.

I also had the surprise of finding the under-bonnet light too!

Glad to help Alex, and yes that under bonnet light is another thoughtful 928 touch along with the chilled glovebox!
