Picture size limit ???

Post by Brett928S2 »

Hi :)

Trying to upload pictures here is getting harder and harder due to increasing size of pictures from cameras and phones and even with "image resizers"
cutting a picture down to 256kb is hard..

In todays world where web space is cheap..that limit needs raising for pics substantially...please ?

Now I am a member again (lol) , I thought I was entitled now to ask.....

All the best Brett :)

I don't see why we need to change the 800 x 600 preferencial size, upload speed is a factor over space.

Uploading photos is simple enough if you use the likes of Photobucket etc.

Hi Sean :)

Photobucket etc are old hat these days...people prefer to upload direct from phones, tablets etc ...and 256 kb is a joke to be honest... apart from anything else it makes the Forum look very 1990`s ....

IMHO lol...

Brett makes a fair point. It would be much easier to just upload from source than amending the size through some other tool beforehand.

Easy won't make the forum work properly for those with slow broadband.

There may be a solution via phhb, I am sure Jim will be along to clarify

Hi Sean :)

The problem is that the 256 kb limit I would guess was designed for 56k modems ...not broadband... a 1mb limit per pic would be small even by todays standards but a lot more sensible...

I don't see the issue - shared from my mobile via google photos, no resizing required, no storage burden on Tipec server, no massively oversized photos:

Hi :)

What burden...terrabytes of hard drive server hard drive space is peanuts these days...

Could you tell me how long that 256 kb limit had been here on forum ?? 10 years or more ???

I wanted to upload some pics in my wrap thread this evening straight from "Messenger" on my phone...they were only 2 mb a time...but no i have to upload them to a PC then shrink them by a multiple of 8 to get them on here....

This is 2017...please get the Forum into this century ...and save everyone a lot of hassle shrinking pics...

New users to this forum will not be encouraged to be frank...

Im ancient but computer literate as I own a Computer company but if we want younger members in Tipec, we need to get up to date....IMHO

All the best Brett :)

To put this to bed, I have checked several forums and they all limit picture size.

The forum is 10 years old so definitely in this Century, in fact this forum will be 10 years old in November. Doesn't time fly :bigsmurf:

I agree that forum developement has probably not kept pace and with the rise of Facebook etc is probably not going to see any significant improvements.

We have a Facebook page so I guess our younger viewers will be on there. It has no where near the same size audience but it is easier.

Thanks for the feedback it has been noted :)

Hi Sean :)

Ah ok...

Umm I have looked and cannot find a National Tipec group on Facebook ?

Is there one ? Or any plans for one, or only local groups (which I can find but do not cover my area)
