Help please 996 steering wheel removal

Post by Gary Howard »

Has anyone had reason to remove their steering wheel on a 996.

Got the torx screws out, and got the airbag off and disconnected

There are three connections to the bag, two easy pull off post connectors, and an electrical "block" type connector that goes into the column top.

Is this supposed to simply pull out? Or is there a retaining clip? Took a half hour to fail to get it out, so thinking it may be corroded in?

Any ideas most welcome please :D

The other end to that connector stays attached to the airbags spring unit behind the wheel.
Don't let that unit move, a bit of tape stops the two parts moving. If the spring goes it's 200 quid.

With the airbags off, it's just the nut

Mmmm
Then the wheel doesn't come off.
The connector on the airbag stays ... Get that no issue, but what about the connector in the column ?

Thanks Steve, that is perfect.

I was leaving the connector on the airbag intact, and trying to remove the one in the column, when pen it is vice versa ....

Thanks for that ....
