The ultimate Petrolhead's day out...

Post by TTX50 »

... OK - so it wasn't in a Porsche, but just had an amazing (free!) day driving automotive porn at Millbrook Proving Ground. The full Aston Martin on-site facility, 4 racing drivers and 4 Vanquishes devoted to just two of us. Best bits were the Alpine course, driving 2 laps of the bowl at 100 mph with hands off the steering wheel and the 1 mile straight reaching over 160 mph. Still buzzing. Massive thanks to Pistonheads, the drivers and the guys at Aston Martin. Wonderful cars, but at over £200K a pop, I might have to give it a miss this year!

I did the same last year with the rapide. Then got invited to the factory tour at a later date and spent the morning out on the roads in db9 carbon special, v12 vantage roadster and rapide behaving very badly!

Also got onto the rolls and Bentley day at Millbrook which was superb driving ghost and continental supersport. The Bentley was a real surprise to me, a great drive almost like a muscle car that could do corners as well!

As you say though big money and a dream for us mere mortals!

Yep - they mentioned the factory day as a follow on, so hopefully an invite will be winging its way in the near future. I'd be up for a Bentley day as well. Their subliminal messaging obviously worked though, as I found myself pricing up V8 Vantages on Autotrader last night!

Indeed, soldierly self restraint is required, it's like being a child again in the toyshop!
