I woke my car up and it got Angry at me!
So car has been parked for 10 days, key-fob would not unlock car (996 Gen 1), tried key and car opened then the alarm went off, after what seem like an eternity trying key fob and key in lock it seemed to stop and the key fob started working again. I was told that the cars shut themselves down to save the battery, but how should I open it so I do not set the alarm off again?

Yup alarm goes to sleep after 120 hours. On a 996 I think lifting the door handle wakes it up but doesn't on a 986 Boxster. Otherwise unlock door with key, insert key into ignition & start car straight away (within 30Sec).

Mine is a 2003 996 and you need to give the key a quarter turn in the drivers door, don't fully unlock it, then use the fob as usual.

Hope that your car moderated its anger, and that you managed a run or two in your car this weekend.
If your car is not used for 5 days
- Unlock drivers door with the key
- Leave the door closed to prevent alarm going off
- Press your door (unlock/lock) button on remote control key, just once
- car should then be unlocked & it has also reset the alarm system
A 1st time owner of a Porsche, so smitten with it.. I've even been thumbing through the owners manual!

thanks All - I did try looking in the manual but could not seem to find it in there? TBH it will not often sit that long without being driven - but glad it was mid morning and not a silly o'clock! Clever though to reduce the battery use when not used - trouble is if you wake it up angry the battery will get a serious workout!
