PIRELLI TYRES worn very quick

Post by NIKKI »

Hi fellow TIPEC members..

Please can anyone advise me on this issue with the Pirelli Tyres fitted to my 996 Turbo.
2 x New Pirelli P Zero Rosso "N" Rated Rear Tyres were fitted last year by a "Known" Tyre Dealer in
Canterbury. An Inspection was carried out last week and the tyres have possibly 6 x months life left,
Having covered only 4250 miles. The 996 is not race, rallied or driven hard.
Surely this is rapid tyre wear in a short space of time.

Thanks Nick Seager

what was the wear pattern on the tyres? and are you really fastidious about running correct tyre pressures, measured often and cold? 911's are not known to be light on rear tyre wear, pressures are critical from my experience .

Answer to your question ref. State of Tyre Wear was EVEN according to the report last week.
Ref.Tyre pressures always done regular "Hot" and "Cold"

So the tyres are running at the correct pressures, the wear is even, and it looks like you could achieve between 6500-8000 miles on them? Pirrelli's are good grippy tyres, which can be a little on the soft side, therefore wear more quickly than some other types. The life you could expect from your tyres is not inconsistent with other owners cars, and can be improved by "sympathetic "(read boring)driving. The N rating on Porsche approved tyres has nothing to do with tyre wear rate expectations.

Sounds about right for Pirelli's they are soft tyres.

I usually get about 8000 miles with either Michellin PS or Conti Contact 2.

Book yourself on a track day, kill them off and start again :)

Hi :)

6000 ISH from a set...lol....you are lucky... I get around 2000 if I am lucky (Nitrous etc)

To be serious, if you are booting it sometimes I am not suprised at that figure... it is launches and hard acceleration in first/second gears that uses tread fairly rapidly....

The other option you have to save money is cheaper tyres... I go through several sets of rears each year, so I use Falken 453`s ,,,brilliant tyres in the dry and good (not brilliant) in the wet....

Your rears are around the same size as mine and Falkens should cost you around £150 each.... which is a LOT less than Pirellis or Michelins....

Hope this helps :)

All the best Brett :)
