Smoke!

Post by 964russ »

Think ive done my engine in!

Went out yesterday for a fun run into the high peak, and now on tickover sum oily smoke comes out the exhaust :( .

Brill!

I reckon it needs a top end rebuild.

Any idea on how much?

What oil is it running?

A lot of specialists and all main dealers are using oil more suitable for more modern oils which tend to make 964's a little more smokey at idle.

Top end rebuild could be on the cards, at around £3000 to £4000, but don't worry too much yet. I think it would be something much less expensive.
Clean it, wax it, love it, ENJOY it... then fix it

Just took a 89 Supersport to unit 11 in Warrington. The bill came to just over 5k but that included a new clutch and fork as well as getting the engine tinware powder coated.Cannot recommend unit 11 enough.they do between 25-30 rebuilds a year and they did a superb job.Put 500 miles on the car and has not used a drop off oil when previously used 3 litres per 1000 miles(all the inlet valves were goosed on the heads).

Got told that the engine needed a rebuild when i bought it.The bill in the end was a relief in the end as the bill was only a few hundred higher than the initial quote and that was for new valves, breather hoses and oil feed pipes. Was cacking ma self that i was looking at new barrels and pistons so was a relief when the bill came in at what it did.was lucky that there was so many recommendations for unit 11 that the 500 mile round trip was worth it.Hope the damage is not to drastic.big bills are one thing torn faced wives who control the finances are another.(mines is still raging)
