Hi guys newbie here. Raring to learn and live the dream.
this weekend im going to look at a 911 carrera coupe sport to possibly buy. its on a F 1988 plate. 110000 miles. The guy has got it up for about £6500. Apparently there is no rust on it other than a bubble on the front wing that has not got bigger in the three years he has owned it. What does concern me is that he knows part of the sill had to be welded. How serious is this? is this acceptable?
He said the gearbox is in great condition, and the engine is tight even though its has not been overhauled. And that the the guy previous to him had it for about 17 years and the service history is mainly main dealer and then more independent specialist. There was a period it has missed two services but only covered 5000 miles in that time.
What else should I look for and what should I ask. Is this a good price for the car assuming all is good with it??
This will be my first Porsche and hopefully many more to come
cheers guys, sorry if this has been an exhausted question and if it is could someone please point me in the direction of the answers?
Regards

Does seem very cheap, look for rust! These go in kidney bowl area and costs are high to put right. Go to impactbumpers.com and search for rust. you need to check door shut area very well. Look around lock plate, any bubbling/repaint. Put hand up inside rear arch behind door lock area , you will find a depression to inside of panel. Dig in here if full of mud pull out and check for rust. Only way to repair is cut out door shut, cut out kidney bowl, weld in new panel, reweld door shut with associated paintwork, abot £1500/side if i recall.Good luck they are great cars

Cheap!
Its either a bargain or a shed.
One mans mint is another mans ripper.
Them supersports are good cars and will only make money not loose it.
Why sell it so cheap if it can make good money???
Good luck.

Re: buying a 911 carrera coupe sport
Don't think its a SuperSport as its described as a Sport, £6.5k does seem very cheap and kidney bowls are about £1.5k per side plus anything else thats found whilst youre in there. The bubbling front wing will be £600+ just for the wing unless you can get a good pattern, then theres paint and anything else thats needed once the wing is off

A reasonable 1988, 3.2 is worth around £11000.
Rusty sills run away from it or be prepared for some BIG BILLS
Basically a 'sport' means that it has the rear wing and other upgrades

Hi and welcome,as previously said you can end up with an awful big bill for buying a bad car,and at porsche prices you do not want too many of those, search out a really good one,you may pay a bit more for it but it will be well worth the trouble of hunting one out...believe me,best of luck.
