Well, after a 158 mile round trip in the rain, I got back home and shortly after, my new Servo arrived.
In the box was 2 x M8 master cylinder nuts and the master cylinder to servo cut seal.
My first observation was that the push rod/diaphragm resistance is much much higher than my old one.
After passenger seat removal and carpet cleaning on Tuesday (iirc), I left the seat out for easier access. Installed the 3 nuts and forgot to install the threaded U clamp but... a brain wave: attach servo pipe (and DME), fire it up and make use of the depression to push the rod in for sufficient clearance to install the clamp to the push rod. Bingo!
Now, I did start it with the servo off yesterday and it didn't seem to run as lumpy as I expected. I'm beginning to wonder if the servo was leaking for some time. I have had this high idle and a bit of a rough start until warm yet this evening, with the new servo in, it fired up very quickly and it seems a lot smoother. A bit of a curve ball given the usual vacuum leak suspects.

We shall see.

Tomorrow: bleed brakes, adjust connecting clamp to push rod to remove any play. Cross fingers I get some luck and it's spot on - I did measure the locknut distance down the threaded part of the push rod but re-measuring in situ is a bit vague. Then re-install sound proofing and re-fit all the electrical stuff. However, when the TOAD alarm decided to chuck a wobbly last January(?), I tidied everything up under there at the same time and so putting that part back together is made a lot easier.
I must say, it all looks very clean 'up' there underneath that side of the dash.
Doubt i'll get to drive it though given the weather forecast.

Oh - and my drivers seat repair looks good. 9 out of 10 but far far better than it was. Colour match with the vinyl is excellent now it's sat in the car, I can compare. I'll now chuck on the seat cover :D

Brakes bled yesterday and bits re-assembled. Pedal feels really good. Other worldly in comparison and feel but storm Darragh had other ideas so still no jolly.

I did have fun with the passenger seat - one of the switches was playing up and I dismantled it to find 2 springs, a centre pin and two ball bearings. Meh. However, after a few attempts, it went back together after a hefty dose of electrical contact cleaner. It's not something that appears that you could dismantle?

But it worked. For how long, I do not know. Which lead me to a realisation: Everything works*. I even sorted the front courtesy light which I hadn't attended to because there were bigger priorities. That means, the only thing left is the bodywork.

*Technically, that's a lie: the hatch pins are set so that I cannot open the hatch with the release switch and that's because when I do, a pothole will open up the hatch. Well, at least on one side.
And... I still have no idea if the oil pressure is okay since I revamped the instrument cluster as I haven't had it up to temperature yet. That's weather dependent.

I would like to upgrade the headlights. Any suggestions welcome.

I put Osram Night Breakers in about 13 years ago, they are an upgrade from a stock bulb (which is akin to a candle inside a brown paper bag) but far from what a modern car puts out. Only about a tenner for a pair. Well in 2011 they were!!

Other than that there are kits with new bits of loom that get 12v to the headlights much better than the old stock wiring which helps. Then of course there is a myriad of LED options with associated pricing, wiring, beam pattern/direction and MOT legality options. A legal, direct fit LED bulb would be good, not sure if such a thing exists, I may take a look now you've got me thinking!

I wouldn't mind a bit more brightness at this time of year, but what I have is passable. If there is an SUV within half a mile the whole world lights up like a Christmas tree anyway!

H4 aye, I think HS4 is the high speed rail link to Aberdeen...............

Will do, allegedly 300% brighter than stock, we will see, maybe I can dazzle a few (thousand) SUV's soon.

Just a bulb change - no adaptation to the loom?

Yes, as long as you don't have canbus on your car, which a 944 does not have.

If you have a dash warning for a bulb out, then you have canbus, in which case you need the decoders @ £17 as well as the bulbs. No canbus is literally plug and play.

I only bothered writing that in case anybody buys a set for a different car.

No I don't have canbus (not even in the dash illumination lol).

I have what you have/had: Osram night breakers.

I'm also figuring you could tilt one of your driving lights to blind SUV drivers. Have it on a separate switch. Fukkers.
