Just goes to show what amazing things a skilled amateur can do with decent resources and a lot of time.
Incredible work.

Thanks for the positive comments,it really is unbelievable that one person has done everything you can see in his spare time, he has adapted his skills as a pattern maker and car buck builder to create a 908 as accurate as he has, He says that when he comes across problems and when he was laying up the body it goes through his mind that the original 908 builders would be doing the same things all those years ago?.
To put this into perspective this one person has.
~From a number of pictures and dimensions created first created a 5Th scale model.
~A full size styling buck that was infilled with foam then shaped and painted.
~Epoxy moulds was then taken from this.
~5Th scale chassis model was then made.
~Full size chassis and jigs made from all correct size tubing and gas welded (as original).
~Screen hoop and roll over bar was hand formed.
~Patterns and castings were made for all suspension components and uprights.
~Patterns was then made for the wheels but have recently found out that cross weight and gardener now supply these.
~Hand laid the complete body.
~Created every mould for seat, screen, inner panels, underside, bonnet, engine cover and inner arches.
p.s The carrera abarth that you see in the background you see is a 5th scale model that was made for someone that wanted a full size car but let him down during the early stages,From the scaled model this gets split then recreated five times larger into a full size styling buck to be then sent and used to mack the alloy body. This is still something that he really wants to do and really wants someone to commission him to complete this car in the not so future.
Believe it or not there is a full size buck already done for a Mercedes 196 stream liner that he built because he liked the shape.I no he really wants to sale this to fund the 908.
This car.
This is the 550 spyder buck that he has recently completed.
I own this 908 project http://www.gt40s.com/forum/can-am-racer ... oject.html
I also have a 906 project. The moulds are from an original 908C body, I also have original upright wheels and windscreen moulds.
We have had the tubing for the chassis lazer cut and will be making bodies and chassis available next year.
Hello folks. Have just come accross this thread as I have long harboured ideas of putting a 908 body on a modified 914 floorpan.
With reference to the incredible work done by the guy on this project, I know all to well just how much is involved as I previously tackled a similar project in a similar way, with 5th scale model as a start point ( just the body as I had the original chassis) working from photos to recreate the lost original body of my old sports racer. I suppose it's easier to do if there are existing cars available to measure, or plans available but to do a coupe is even harder as doors, windscreens etc have to fit well.
unfortunately all the research I did meant it' value became than I could justify with a young family and an old house, so it was sold on to a far more compotent restorer who, I believe (from the progress reports I have had) is aiming for a return to track this year.
just stumbled across this thread. Actually I am into looking for someone to build a Abarth replica. I have already scanned a car and done the CAD design to make the buck/moulds. So it would be very nice if you could make contact with the guy and ask if he would be interested in building the Abarth. For his passioncar , the Mercedes W196 and S196 I have also done all CAD work and already a 1:5 scale model of the Uhlenhaut Coupe. So it looks as if we have some common interests and could do a fruitful cooperation. So , if possible send me a PM.
