Cheers Blackadder, I'll need to clean/paint the other alloy bits. In the meantime I've added one of these!!

Drove the 227 Miles back from the old girls 10th Annual TLC Service at JMG, super drive never missed a beat, most comfortable car I have driven, those Porsche seats really do the business, as do all the other bits, Turbo included
Must get out more this year. :D

Bought an endoscope, then took a deep breath and poked it in every orifice in the sill. Got a bit of a shock when I saw lots of bumpy brown stuff and feared the worst. I managed to scrape some off and found that it was sticky, rather than crumbly - it's waxoil type stuff. Very relieved.

The other thing I noticed is just how much gravel gets in there, around where it meets the front wing.

Cheers,
Bryan

snapped a bleed nipple in a caliper

[urlImage]

then to cheer myself up fitted a much nicer handbrake lever

fitted, also renewed the spade connector that had broken off the contact for the dash illumination

which caliper has the broken nipple ? they are easy to find on Ebay etc. Probably not worth paying for a rebuild if you can get a good 2nd hand job. set of seals is a few £.

Hi,

They have a very good reputation in the classic motoring world.

I used them a number of years ago to refurb two Sierra calipers that I wanted to fit to the back of my 289 Replica Cobra. I had an awful experience. In less than 12 months I had 3 seal failures on my refurbished calipers and I ended up in a big row with them and their solicitor. I eventually got compensation. At the same time I bought two refurbished calipers from them for the front of the car - they were fine. On the Sierra calipers they just kept on replacing seals and they kept on failing. I evntually bought two new calipers from elsewhere.

I am sure they normally give a good service - they must do or they would not survive - but I did not enjoy the experience.

I'd noticed mixed reviews for them, thanks for the feedback largie.

kashurst, its for the rear and I've got an old pair lying around somewhere in the garage loft space, just need to track them down and be a bit more careful this time

Your calipers look like the single piston type. I had mine refurbished by Classic Car Automotive in Cheshire. I came across them on the Lotus Elan forum but have since heard that a large number of the Porsche restoration specialists subcontract their calipers to them. Mine came back looking new with new stainless pistons. The fact that they were on my doorstep was an added bonus.

Hope that helps.

No affiliation by the way.

Thanks for the recommendation Matt I'll keep them in mind for the front pair if they put up a fight

found my rusty old spare rear calipers this afternoon

started with this

[urlImage]

then after 20 minutes with a wire cup brush on the grinder

[urlImage]

then a good soak with some penetrating fluid and a couple of gentle taps with a smallish hammer

bleed nipple and brake pipe nut removed with zero drama/swearing :bom:

although was nearly a dead man as when blowing some air through and then compressing the piston to check it was ok I shot some manky brake fluid across the garden which just missed the whirly and nice clean dry washing - oops

a trip to the shops for some caliper paint tomorrow :D

going to buy some new piston seals - anyone done this recently ? where did you get them from. Was going to try Frazerpart

Nice work shep73. I rebuilt all 4 calipers last year. While most people would probably recommend your nearest OPC, I bought online from design911. Price was £75 inc. delivery for seal kits for all 4 corners.

I replaced the wafers that were masquerading as brake pads
Tomorrow i'll be replacing my anti roll bar bushes. With the correct size this time :-)
And a roll bar bracket. Seized and spinning bolts had to be drilled out.
Might even have time to wash it before Beaulieu

Today was completion of fitting new radio. Decided to get modern but will retain the original radio for future. £40 Sony so I can play MP3 and Aux input, it's a short chassis so it easily fits in the dash. Disconnected the fader so speakers are controlled directly. Based on weather forecast I should be able to give it a drive to work to test out tomorrow!

Interesting. Cath Burrows has refitted the original (soft) ARBs to my '68, replacing the M030s that Stuart had on it when I bought it.

Did a straight swop with Stu, so when they are off he can have them back (for his 'new' Sport, I guess). There are also new purple poly bushes (yes, the right size Jason :) ), so it will be interesting to see how the softness of the standard ARBs combine with the slightly harder bushes: a more compliant ride, I hope.

Come Autumn it'll be returning the front springs to standard and reindexing the rear torsion bars to get back the lost 20mm ride height all round. Then it'll have the soft ride like I need these days.

Tim.

That's next weekend's job for me.

Out with the £40 Lidl special offer Tevion MP1810 with the Jean-Michel Jarre lightshow, in with a very reserved-looking Blaupunkt Stockholm 230. Single-DIN, DAB/DAB+, CD, MP3, AAC, Aux-in, iPod, Android, handsfree calls and streaming playback from Bluetooth phone. £133 delivered from Berlin, with 2-year warranty, but I may have to get a separate DAB aerial if the one supplied isn't up to the job.

What was that about listening to the music of the engine? :)

Tim.

Have been driving about gloriously sunny Glasgow all week with the a/c cranked up! This has reminded me that the flaps on the main front air vent have a tendancy to flop about and not aim the air where you want it...................so spent 5 mins changing the vent and clock surround for my spare and I can now fire ice cold air wherever I want!
