Hmmm... good idea. Is that filter generic to all 944's?

Can't seem to remove the power steering pump and i'm flummoxed as to how to remove the clutch from the bell housing.

Any suggestions welcome.

Ordered a PSP seal kit. Thought i'd do that before re-installation.

Here's the recon engine ready to go in. Shot was taken before I enamelled the rocker cover.

I hadn't noticed.

I'm totally pre-occupied with this 'thread 150mm M8 bolt to shaft, attach vice grips and tap with hammer' to get the clutch out of the bell housing malarkey.

What shaft?
Through(?) which hole?
Where?
'Thread' ?!

If you look closely at the rear mount bolt of the power pump you will see there is a collar in the hole

You have to jiggle that out and then the pump will come off, put a seal kit in the pump while it’s off, don’t drop the vanes!

Oh i'll do it with it off. Watched a short vid on how to do it and it seems straight forward. I have to take it off the old engine and fit it to the recon one anyway.

Cheers, i'll look for the collar.

Still cannot figure out the clutch from the bell housing removal.

Yes, i've got access to that.

PSP pump was a doddle, thanks.

Clutch however...

Ended up using the angle grinder to cut the thrust bearing off (pics later) I am so glad that I haven't compromised the bell housing in any shape or form.

Now, if we use slightly different terminology in the sentence;

'thread 150mm M8 bolt to shaft, attach vice grips and tap with hammer'

'screw 150mm M8 bolt into the end of the clutch release lever axle/spindle and use the bolt to pull it out', it makes sense.

However, the above method requires levering against the bell housing or using a slide hammer and I was reluctant to do that. What I did was use a M8 flanged bolt and used a chisel against the flange of the bolt and tapped it out with a hammer. Bingo. Didn't stop me having to cut the diaphragm and thrust bearing though.

Clutch release lever roller bearings seem good. I don't know what the efficacy of replacing them is.

Received the engine mounts H - thank you.

The bearing for the clutch release rod are a common size and can be bought anywhere, more important is the state of the shaft, has it got any indentations from the rollers, if so then a new one and bearings will be required

It looks good. I bought a complete clutch kit so i'll look at what I have and what I don't when it comes back from storage (with engine and box and starter ring and ignition leads and plugs and harness and ECU...).

I had to take off the fuel and filter assembly to get access to the drive shaft bolts. They were easier than expected. Left them soaked in de-blocker for 30 mins and then cleaned the heads out before hammering the alen socket in (12 times).

But the damn fuel filter mounting bracket rubber mounts came apart on me. Looked at Design 911 for the two replacements - £20.95 each plus VAT and carriage! The thieving sons of flea bitten motherless goats.
So I had a check at partworks.de. I really ought not to forget about those boys, (i've had orders from them before) and I got a pair for £13.95 incl. , free postage.

Everything that needs to be off the gearbox is off but can't get it off the torque tube...
That's Monday's job. I've burnt the candle out and i'm having the weekend 'off', re-charge the battery. Might do some fettling with the wire dizzy on the bell housing, front cross member and I intend to paint the torque tube heat shield. It's okay, no perforations but it's that 'whilst you're in there...'.

Oh here's a pic of that damn clutch:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, the fuel filter mounts are standard bobbin mounts

They can be purchased from av mounts for £1.50 each
