Having used full winters on previous BMW's which are absolutely pants on snow even with regular rubber, let alone run flats, this year on the Audi I have gone for Michelin Cross Climates. Not full winters so will not be as good on full snow conditions, but will be way better for all other low temperatures and wet conditions for most of the year. Trade off is if it becomes 20++ deg in Summer this won't be ideal, but considering we get so few days with snow or heat wave, then I think these are a great trade off.FarQue wrote:Has it been cold enough to justify winters thus far? Boost is strong with these low temps!

Steve,
I'm going to put Cross Climate's on our Tiguan.
They do have a snowflake so better than most all weathers in the snow

Re: Winter tyre time
Years ago I had a then-fairly-new E46 330ci. Absolute comedy car when there was even a light dusting of snow on the ground. Our old 986s was pretty awful too. The current 997 tends to stay in the garage when there's snow on the ground.
My 'daily' Focus Estate has proven to be very adept during the winter months when fitted with my affordable winter tyre of choice: Avon Ice Touring (205/55 x 16). I don't think you really realise the benefit of winter tyres until you've actually tried them. Or been on all season tyres and failed to start or complete your journey because you can't drive forward or can't stop safely...

Re: Winter tyre time
I have tried them and while I agree with then being better on colder days and on snow, but I found them to be border line dangerous on warmer wet days. I bought a mk6 escort 1.8 si as a stop gap with some fitted they lasted a week before I put some khumo ku31 tyres on.

Re: Winter tyre time
For the 9-10 months of the year where we are basking in 10deg heat and pissing rain, I think these could be a must have tyreJasonGibson wrote:Steve,

So far I have not noticed any down side in handling, braking or grip in dry or wet, warm or cold weather. I don't hang around in the A6 either. I have noticed more grip when accelerating and braking in dry and wet conditions. For the same price as a 'summer/all year' tyre I think they are a no brainer. I'm doing 30k miles per year, so a set of tyres needed per year, we'll see how long they last. Can't see them covering any less miles than the last set.

Fitted the winters to Beckys MX5 yesterday. She hates it because the wheels aren't pretty
