As STEVEG said , Avon Ice Touring tyres are superb winter tyres. Like him I have them on spare alloys and they have gotten me through all sorts of snowy weather. Recommended.

Ill try and steer this back the driving standard and contradict myself in a sense. Despite my down talking of the "AUTO" cars.

My friend who runs the internet has discovered this

http://www.automatic.com/

If it does what it says, it must simply be better than sliced bread!

About 4 weeks ago I was driving to London on the M40. It was snowing and the road was icy - covered in a layer of snow. Myself and other sensible motorists were doing about 50 in the inside lane and keeping a good distance from the guy in front. The occasional dickhead overtook at 70/80 mph in the middle lane.

One of the latter lost control of his car at the point of passing me, slammed into my car leaving me in a pile of scrap on the hard shoulder. The car was a write off. His actions literally put my life at risk.

Whenever you talk to a group of people there is always someone who expresses the view that all other drivers are too cautious/drive too slowly etc etc etc in poor weather conditions. These are the dickheads who make our roads dangerous....

Re "automatic" there is an app for iphone and android that converts your phone to a dash cam with auto video looping and auto save following an accident, and you can capture stills and video as you go along + replay your journeys. It also will send an e-mail automatically if you are in a bump. The app costs just 69p instead of $69 and it works too - its called "Witness Driving" and I have started using it because there are just too many bad drivers out there, not to mention insurance scammers etc.

More info at www.witnessphoneapp.com/

I am not involved with this app, it is just good.

So to revive this thread, not snow but driving standard

Now the summer is over and in particular last week up here, on Wednesday we had some very thick fog, as bad as 20ft vis. the amount of f**kwit drivers I saw with no lights on at all and still driving at 60+mph. I flashed at one woman to trying and bring her out of the drooling stupor state that driving puts most motorists into and she just waved at me.

I appreciate the problem starts at the learner level, I was never taught to drive in the fog or even told that if its foggy I should have my dipped beam on. Much like if its raining then put your lights on. Why do you think the flashing light in motorsport is call a "RAIN" light To help other drivers recognise the fact another vehicle is near to them.

I'm not ranting at the members of the club but the 99% of motorists who arnt even vaguely aware of how to drive beyond pushing go and stop pedals.

Could we start an initiative as a club to try and make people aware, I'm sure we can get all manner of motoring clubs together as this issue may be hugely frustrating but its also incredibly dangerous. In the past few weeks I have been counting vehicles which should have lights on when conditions require and on average 80% DON'T

I am also disappointed with the police force and media for not waking people up after the huge smash down in kent. They really should have been hammering home the fact people needed lights on, if they had lights on they would have known a vehicle was in front and that it was closer than is should have been in such poor visibility. Oh and maybe they should have been doing about 35mph not 65 to give them selves even the slightest hope of stopping.

Lights need to be called side markers again so hopefully the penny will drop that they mark your vehicle out to other motorists and that light serve more than to enable you to see when its dark.

Please help before I start physically beating sense into these morons :D

Police, AA, RAC, Brake, Media they have failed witha captive audience.

Given that no-one that you are describing above will be anywhere near a motoring club or forum, we have two hopes, Bob and f##k all.

I'd suggest getting on a course to learn how to observe, make space around you and try and avoid them as best you can. However, I'm living proof that that is not always possible!

Good luck.
