Today, in Milton Keynes at least, the sun came out!
So .... I woke the car from its (extended) winter hibernation, unplugged the trickle feed, pushed it into the sun and put the key in the ignition .....
First time start, sweet as a nut ....
Just need an MOT And tax disc ..... Was tempted but no. I'll wait.
Belts and rollers to do, service and we will be ready for Laon!!

Accomplished lots over the last two days.

First, and most excitingly, I got my second set of wheels back. I ummed and ahhed about the colour then I took a combination view of Colin 'add lightness' Chapman and the Teutonic outlook of the mighty 944's maker. Thus the colour I went for was....

Nothing.

Yep, I had them media blasted back to the bare metal and clean clearcoated in super strong 2 Pack. It really is quite an interesting finish, like a combination of shadow chrome and bare grey primer. Frankly it is a little bit weird but I absolutely love them. They're also about 300g lighter after the 6 coats of paint and primer were removed.

Other than that I've done a full bulb refresh with Osram products, now much better at night.

Also sorted the rubber window scrapers with spanking replacements from JMG.

Then fitted new leather steering wheel lozenge and gearstick - miles better.

Then, today, I gave the car an absolute mullering down the M1 for 200 miles and I'm now at Silverstone awaiting a day of open pit track action tomorrow. There's another 84 944 there too, maybe a member here?

That's about it.

Got to agree. I really want to see these "natural" finished wheels.

Took the 968 down to Pro-9 in Reddich today with a few others from the region.

There was some very impressive Porsche there. The stand outs for me were a 964 in gulf blue being made into an RS replica, a nice race ready 944 S2, a very nice 914 with a very impressive cage and chassis strengthening, there were a few other nice 911's and even the spares cars outside were worth walking round. The cage in the 944 was just the type of thing I've been looking for for my car, so there may be a return trip when the rest of the car is ready.

I had a very productive day today...

1) Removed badly fitted slotted valance.

Before:

After:

2) Inspected underneath for any signs of fuel line crustiness - none found. The underside is very clean, as it is mostly buried in a thick coating of underseal.
Possible early signs of trouble on the centre pipe though:

3) Removed crusty old back box - more repair paste than metal!:

Fitted new Dansk back box:

4) Replaced power steering pump - I had no power assistance, this turned out to be due to re-using the circlip on the end of the shaft when I rebuilt it last year. The circlip has made a bid for freedom, and I could pull the pulley and shaft out the end of the pump!

5) Used my new pressure washer to give it a good clean (first wash since the ECU got drowned in August.) Parked facing downhill this time so the scuttle panel didn't get filled up. My fibreglass repair seems to have held firm too.

All in all a good day. MOT next...
8)

Finally got round to following the advice given and fixed my 944 heater, with thanks. It now blows cool air out as well as hot. Removed the glove box liner and the whole process was easier than I thought. Enjoyable and a sense of satisfaction. An easy job but I never do anything like this so a first for me.

Cool!

Good to know you got it all fixed. Quite a common issue.

Nothing to report with my 924's, 968's and 944's... Been mostly waiting for a decent amount of rain to get the salt of the roads so I am happy to take out my beloved turbo for a good shake down.

Yes, you heard it, with my white one I have become "one of those" and the white one is not allowed out on salty roads anymore!

Anyway, it needs to remain tip top so I can get buried in it one day!

He seems like a nice guy and I like the roll cages they do and the first to tell me they would do a weld in rear cage and bolt in front section.

If I'd have known you were close by I'd have dropped in to say hello. :)

Jon, I know you said you'd never sell it but maybe getting buried in it is maybe taking the passion a bit far.

Got my old 968CS rear seat out, vacuumed and photographed it, thought about fitting it: put it back on the shelf.
