One of the reasons why our European cousins demanded that we went metric was they had no understanding of imperial measurements. This list is an attempt to help. understanding of imperial measurements.

10 fluid oz. = half a pint
Only 2 pints officer = 80 fluid oz.
Just a quick half dear = 160 fluid oz.
Never more than 3 units Dr. = 2 quick halves

And in length;
Hair’s breadth = Tiny, really very tiny indeed
7 Hair’s breadths = Gnat’s whisker
13 Gnat’s whiskers = a Smidgeon
19 Smidgeons = a Tad
7998 Tads = a Stone’s throw
29 Stone’s throws = Just up there, you can’t miss it

And capacity;
A Pinch = Tiny, really very tiny
7 Pinches = a Few
13 Fews = a Handful
19 Handfuls = a Bucketload
7998 Bucket loads = a Shedload,
29 Shedloads = a Lorryload

And weights;
Next to nothing = Tiny, very tiny
7 Next to nothings = Light as a feather
13 Lights as a feathers = Hardly know you’ve got it
19 Hardly know you’ve got its = Get off me foot
7998 Get of me foots = Cop the weight of that
