I did indeed, the spring tensioner over tightened the cam belt so eased that back a fraction first, also I had the balance belt idler wheel to tight causing some belt whine so eased that back trying to use the credit card trick. Still slight whine on test drive but seems less and less.

One trick I found for the balance belt sprockets was using a section of the old belt wrapped around it with some big grips!

Well done. I've often wondered if the tensioner tools take into account the timing belt getting tighter as the head/block expands. I think this is what knocks out some used waterpumps shortly after belt changes. I believe it's possible to use the S2 waterpump with a small clearance job on the block.

They must do, which is why the tension must be set on a cold engine.

Depends if you look into the history of how the tools came into use and take account of 25 years of development on the belts.

Looking good! Filled the tank with Shell super, had the rear tyres changed. Annoyingly the tyre place used the gear box to jack it up. £350ish lighter I'm about ready for Bedford trackday, just need to remove excess crap from the cabin and pack a spade.

Blimey that's a full paint job! Looking forward

to seeing the final result! Bedford was my first track day. Good fun :-)

The belt tension does worry me a bit, so will check on It for a while.

Started to rebuild it again after a full body and engine bay repaint. Got the refurbed Fuchs on first, rebuilt the passenger door and fitted adjustable top mounts

Very nice work - I thought it was already finished though?

It was. Had some micro blisters on the body, blew the engine early last year so I thought I'd repaint the engine bay whilst its in the body shop/engine being rebuilt. It's like the Forth Road bridge, never finished!
