How sad is this.....up at six am to run my wife to work for her early shift (The Nursing profession does not respect bank holidays!) so killed the eight hours before we could officially start Christmas by attacking the sunroof adjustment on my car.

The rear edge has always sat 5-6mm proud at the rear edge, so armed with the workshop manual, I'm gradually adjusting things so it fits flush...the job reads much easier than it really is!

Fixed my headlight problem and changed a water pipe at the top of the waterpump that I nicked when tightening my oil filter!

Bled it, test drove it, got lights on the outside and plenty hot air in cabin so a successful afternoon!

Cured my temp issue, pulled the water pipe off the pump to discover there was no thermostat. Fitted the new one and realised the clip was missing, so made a clip and fitted it. Now runs about 20 degrees warm

How did you get on with this job. I have had a couple of attempt so still far, but it looks like the sun roof is bowed, as it is high in the middle each side.

I had a similar problem - it looked like my roof was bowed as it sat high in the middle at the rear.

So far I've stripped the headline rail and head lining off as per the manual. I've had an initial quick go at adjusting the lifting boxes with promising results, but had to abandon as A deluge of children and grandchildren arrived today!

Back on speed tomorrow, I'm hoping to have it Sussed and adjusted ready for Brooklands on the 1st January. I'll post the results tomorrow hopefully.

Seasons Greetings

Jon

No brush on paint, just masked an even margin around the glass and gave it 2 coats

Well I spent ages yesterday cutting out double sided 'heavy duty all weather oil and water resistant guaranteed to stick anything to anything like sh1t to a blanket' double sided foam pads and carefully fitted the screwposts to my hockey sticks ensuring perfect alignment. A bit of a disaster though as the gentlest of tugging force easily unstuck these useless pieces of cr@p so now I am back to square one.

I think I will try no more nails next - it can't do any worse!

I will screw the posts into the hatch after first placing a square of greaseproof paper over each hole and punching through the paper with the securing post - then I shall apply the no more nails to each post head and stick the hockey stick on. Hopefully this will make it easy to align them properly and any excess gunk will be caught by the greaseproof paper and wont glue the hockey sticks permanently to the hatch.

We shall see...

Had another go at adjusting the sunroof seating with some success. I've now worked out what impact the various adjustments have on roof position. The only issue is as you make one adjustment, it affects all the other adjustment points....it's a case of small adjustments, check, readjust, check and so on unless I've got it completely wrong!

I had the roof seated perfectly by late last night...the only problem is that the lifting arms are now binding and slow and reluctant to lift....so more adjustment required there I guess.

Spent most of yesterday and today playing with the adjustment on the roof. I've reached a compromise position where the of is still a couple of millimetres high but at least it still opens and closes...I've come to the conclusion that the hole must have shrunk or the roof grown over the last 29 years

I also removed the nsr light cluster and replaced the caulking (which didn't seal 100% with a neoprene sponge seal (actually meant for an Audi Quattro rear cluster) which is about 5mm square and self adhesive on one side, hopefully that will stop the leak into the boot.

Just fitted a new battery to the 968. The old one was dated 2004 and let me down when I left the side lights on for just 10 mins. The new one is such a difference, starter motor is much faster now :)

I need 2 do this repire as well, was thinking off using a metal bond glue a weilder told me off its a strong as a weild, used in areas that's to thin or hard 2 get 2 places. Can't rember the name.

My 1st idea was 2 fiber glass them in place, 2 cut a long strip off it and and poke the studs though, then fix it all in place so the wings off the tabs are in cased. Hopefully the studs will pull on the wings, wings pull on the fiber glass pulling on the hockey sticks
