A gazebo and wooly jumpers are all that is needed! The hard work will keep you warm.

I don't have a picture of changing the thermostat and a radiator hose on the road, lying on ice. That was not a very fun morning!!

today i have been trying to remove my locking wheel nuts after loosing the removal tool. i have a selection of anti clockwise tools for this job but they have just sheared the top of the nuts off. drilling holes around the base of the nut hasnt worked, now i am drilling the studs out, starting with a small drill bit and working up in size.
tomorrow i will be sharpening about 20 drill bits at work!

Have you tried hammering a socket piece over the locking nut ? Can't say without looking if it works on 944 locking nuts, but had similar problem over the years when buying cars, and has worked a treat. Just need to make sure you have a replacement nut, and you use a socket piece you do not mind potentially breaking.....

Also do all the other nuts up extra tight, this will relive some off the persure and force needed 2 remove the nut

Better be careful Alex. Mine will need belts next year and you are getting a reputation for good work. Catch up soon

Haha, I've failed to installed water pumps multiple times now! Belts are easy though. I've been taught to bodge by the professionals. By next year I might have more confidence.

Hindsight has now taught me to buy some gasket remover spray and accompanying scraper blade.

Also be armed with spare sundry items such as bolts, nuts, washers, and hose clips. I always drop some bolts or nuts, and whilst I mostly find them again, they often come off in terrible condition, or are not quite the right size.

The "proper" method of locking the flywheel still seems very sensible, but I am certainly satisfied with my alternative of a very powerful impact gun.

Do use good quality parts i.e. belts, pump and thermostat. Basically anything that JMG recommend.

Allow plenty of time if also doing the front oil seals. 1 day was optimistic!

Have a box for bolts and bits, and another for laying out a map of where all the rollers and pulleys come from. If in doubt, take photos at various stages of dismantling.

Don't use Haynes for reference. I've even heard that the torque settings are wrong. Clarke's Garage is the most reliable source.

Drink tea and admire your achievements!

This sounds like my sort of project!!

I have a rough price from JMG for all the bits I need, just need some cash and time to do the job now. Always a lot of things getting in the way.

Changed my transaxle fluid yesterday, no metal present in the old oil and also discovered the factory fitted LSD is still present 8). Had planned to do the fuel filter too but with the oil cooler pipe in the way it looked a pig of a job so will save that for another day!

Then did an oil and filter change - forgot how much of a PITA oil filters are to change on these. Again, no metal filings on the sump plug or in the oil so well happy.

Went for a spin after, had the 'overboost' type problem rear it's head again, the second time it did it (whilst overtaking a lorry - scary!) shortly after I had to stop for a car in front turning right. As soon as I stopped the car stalled. Very weird! Will take a look tomorrow to see what's up, if I can find it

Yesterday - started wheel #2 of my refurb of a set of 4 cookie cutters 8)
Today - Worked "Bat style" (upside down) in the driver's footwell to remove and inspect my ECU. Opened it up and found moisture inside it :(

Sold one of my 968's and had my white turbo detailed (8 hours of serious grime removal and many layers of polish, sealer and wax!!)

Roll on spring so I can drive the white turbo again without salty roads!!

Spent the last couple of days removing my rear bridge type spoiler and trim ready for repainting.

I discovered that the side trims were actually only held on in two places each due to the rest of the securing posts having parted company with the side trim due to rust! Only had to drill out two screws so not so bad - just a bit fiddly.

It helped me a lot by filing down a small socket to make a special tool to remove the side trim nuts.

All rubber seals removed and treated with Gummi Pflege Stift. I also brought a roll of 3mm double sided tape to stick the seals back on with once the metal bits have been painted.

Old black paint surround on inner glass hatch is cracked and flaky so I will scrape all of that off and then decide then whether to repaint the hatch or not depending on what it looks like.

Finally. the weather is so sh!t that I have SORNED my motor as of the end of December. It will come out to play again in the spring.

I did exactly the same to my rear hatch, only I drilled holes through the metal trim to reattach it with normal screw type bolts and then later threw the trim away because it looked rubbish, only to find out that it costs over £200 to replace it :0( damn. The black glass paint on my rear hatch is also flaky and worn off in places, so that's something on my do list next year. Let us know if you do decide to repaint it, as I'd like to know what type of paint product to use.

The black paint flaked off my old 944S hatch, I bought some black glass paint from Hobbycraft and repainted it after scraping the old paint off, looked almost as good as new
