Newbie with a couple of 996 questions!!

Post by swallowtaillee »

hi all, fairly new to this forum, used to have a 944 and just bought a 02' 996 got a couple of silly questions,

should there be a guard between the rear tyres and the exhaust back boxes? as on mine there isn't. so anything the back tyres kick up will stick to the exhaust, is this correct?? it doesn't look like anything has been removed. just thought it was a bit odd and wanted to check. :bounce:

also i have a slight rattle coming from the front, only at low speeds and on uneven roads, large bumps etc dont cause it, or at speed, am i right in thinking this is the forward facing forked control arms? done a quick search and this is what people are saying on a couple of sites. i cant feel any play in any of the arms or drop links. i've looked back at the receipts and its had all four coffin arms (front and back) replaced 40 odd thousand miles ago at an OPC could they wear out again this quick?

any advice appriciated. cheers,

I'm taking mine for an MOT tomorrow, I'll look under and see what there.

The front top suspension mounts are guilty of wearing out. I'm sure that's what it causing my squeeking. They're around £120 each to buy and the same to fit the pair, or there about. :D

Oops, forgot. No, there is nothing there on a turbo. The dirt will get thrown from the rear tyres straight onto the exhaust. :)
