HI guys,

I have just written a new article for the company website, just to help people with advise regarding storing their Porsche over winter, just thought you guys may find it useful. I originally posted it in the 924/944/968 area, but it occurred to me it is probably useful to all members.

Good stuff Jon, maybe add the 911 storage suggestion of draining off a litre or so of engine oil, to add before spring start up to allow for oil draining back to tank, and how little oil there is within a 911 engine after 3-4 months storage. Also make sure your brakes (calipers and disks) are clean and DRY before the car is put away for the winter.

Good point, I will be doing a "getting your car out of storage in the springtime" article there as well.

Having a few problems with alarm on my S2 (standard PA1000) - how do you stop it sounding after battery is disconnected? as I want to store car for the winter.
Tried what was stated in the handbook, but doesn't work.....

Have mentioned this via PM, but will mention it here for the sake of the archives.

With the PA series alarms, typically (as long as they were installed correctly) if you have the drivers door open, and the ignition switched on when you disconnect the battery (and reconnect it) the alarm will not go crazy when you disconnect the battery.

I notice that you have not given any advice on running the engine regularly thoughout the winter. Any thoughts on this?

Bit of a dodgy subject that.

On the one hand running the engine frequently over winter can help keep it oiled, but on the other hand, cold starts and allowing the engine to idle for prolonged periods can be worse for an engine than letting it stand.

There can be some benefits from removing the fuel pump fuse and turning the engine over on the starter motor for a few 15 second blasts every couple of weeks can be good. especially if the battery is kept on a trickle charger or a battery conditioner.. But I would still advise leaving the battery earth strap disconnected the rest of the time
