A friend of mine is looking to sell his E36 M3 in the next couple of weeks and go for a 944 S2.

The criteria are: Budget of around 6k, not convertable, non turbo, Colour must be Guards Red or White, Interior doesnt mind cloth or leather but if leather must have Air Con (can this easily be retro-fitted?)

What are the chances of getting the above spec and what should we be looking out for when viewing?

Theres no rush to find one as he has other transport in the meantime.

Well you are reducing your options considerably by having those provisos and at a rough guess if you wanted leather and A/C in an S2 of those two colours I bet there are not more than a dozen in the country as A/C was pretty uncommon in S2's.

After that you have have to make all the usual 944 checks and the only thing extra on an S2 is wether the camchain has been changed recently. So many people stil don't know this is a wear and tear item and really should be changed every 50k miles to save lots of ££££££

As always buy on condition and not on specification, it is far better to buy a good model that doesn't quite tick all the boxes rather than a poor one with all the goodies you want. A/C can be retrofitted for around £2k

Yet another must have an S2. Just try to get a good 944 or your mate could be looking a long time! They all tune! Agree with paul CONDITION is all that counts. Lots of sad rusty S2's out there. Better a twincam S & have 3K left to spend on it in my book
