I just replaced the rear wheel bearings today. I started at home working on the road side. Got a bit stuck removing the drive shaft bolts. So I gave up and Took the car 2 garge and worked along side them. I removed both drive shalf and re packed the cv joints with fresh grease after remove as much off the old grease as possable. Replaced the one off the gear box oil seals and drained the gear box and replaced with 75/90 oil
With the driveshaft out I was able 2 knock the hub out, which took half the bearing with it, leaving just the bottom race, this was weild then knocked out, heated the arm up and the frozen bearing just dropped in.
Hand brake spring have snapped on one side so Iv got no handbrake at the mo.
I turned up at the garge at 1 and left at 8.
Car was fine 4 about 20miles, the bearing noise was gone and everything was quite. Then I started getting a knocking noise. Which is more aparnt when turning left, but can be heard when going straight.
I spoke with the mercanic who did the work with me. He thinks the driveshaft is worn, and has seated in a slightly differnt postion then before or maybe instoled the other way round.
So seems like I need new driveshaft or at least cv joints at each end.
Any sirguestion or thoughts?
