trying to accurately identify some brake calipers i have.

i believe both of them are either 928s4 or 968 m030 calipers

they both look identical apart from the piston size, they both accept the same pads

one set has piston sizes approx 32mm/40mm on the outside diameter

the other calipers are 39/45mm od (size of piston housing)
i can see part numbers on the inside of these calipers which are 20.4565.00 and 20.4564.00, the different part numbers dictate each side of the caliper (2 part caliper)

they both have exactly the same mounting points (radial) and the same inlet port, and 2 bleed nipples at one end.

can any1 identify each caliper for me

many thanks
nick

i was hoping some1 could identify with the part numbers. i only measured up the pistons with a rule, best way to measure will be to push the pistons out and measure with a vernier properly.

there are some pics of one set in my track car build thread! and both sets look identical apart from the different piston sizes

they are almost certainly medium blacks as found on the front of m030 turbos, 968 clubsports, and 928 s4. just trying to find out for sure which calipers came from which car!

found a useful thread here
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche- ... rakes.html

the part number i have posted is apparently a brembo casting number.

looks like the new brakes i have, are either late type 928s4, 968 clubsport, or 993 c2 or c4 n/a (all fronts) they are calipers made to run with 304x32mm discs which are what i have on the car. and they are def medium size calipers as they run the mid sized pads.

it is likely they are the same size pistons as the 968c/s m030 36/44. i will have to check with a vernier

Looking at the calipers in you photo ( on about page 8 ) they look like the early m030 calipers. The ones without dust seals, just scraper seals and the "Porsche" is part of the casting. They look the same as the ones I have and should have the 36 and 44 pistons.

those were the brakes fitted to the car along with 928 s4 discs. they are radial mounted onto m030 hubs. but the pistons are certainly not 36/44, they are 32/40mm.

the new brakes look identical, with the lines/raised writing etc, but they have larger pistons, much more like the 36/44

right have done a bit more digging and had a closer look at the calipers today.

it turns out they both have the same pistons! 36/44 so 928 s4/ 968 m030/ 944 m030 calipers.

the only difference is the piston seals are different and make the pistons look smaller on one set than the other as the piston face is smaller and has a machined groove for the seal to sit in. the new set have much smaller piston seals which make the piston look larger. once the piston is pushed out the main piston body is the same diameter on both sets.

it seems that one set is an early set, the other a late set which have different seals! one set has 85/86 as part of the casting, the other set has 89 stamped into it. i take it this relates to the year of manufacture?

I was a bit thrown off by those piston sizes you were quoting, but yes, sounds like you have a set of early and late M030 callipers.

got there in the end! wheres the best place to get 2 individual piston dust seals. brembo part number 20.4872.48, i have found them on brembo site for 12 euros each but the shipping is 20 euros which is a joke!

the late m030 calipers i have need a set of hex head grub screws to hold the caliper plates in place (x8) and 2 seals for the 44mm pistons (dust seals only)

i have split the calipers and got rid of the very small amount of plate lift, i was going to replace the 2 seals which have 2 small splits, re fit the plates with new screws (i have cleaned out the threads) and then these calipers will be available for sale ready to use with no plate lift and perfect seals.

thanks
nick

The screws for the plates I got off some guy on Fleabay. Stainless Steel M5 button head, think I measured one & got the length. They were pennies each.
