I remember when I had my 944S the OPC where I had it serviced recommended replacing the head gasket after 10 years, not sure if this is an official Porsche interval tho'

A day of tinkering for me too. Finally got the last of the sound deadening out from behind the heater and the air con radiator out. Now that was a pain in the arse as I did it with draining the water out by sliding the heater matrix out as I moved the heater towards the passenger side. All back in now and sorted alot of the wiring out while the dash is out.

How many hours are we talking for a head gasket job roughly, just so I can work out how much my mechanic will roughly charge me :)

m.o.t. time tomorrow, i dont need to change the oil because it leaks so much its always new oil in there, but i changed the brake fluid today to AP600 racing fluid. hopefully my brakes wont fade so quick now ( green stuff pads fitted )
New k&n a couple of weeks ago and 99 ron fuel so hopefully the emissions will be ok. fingers crossed that it passes.

MOT yesterday, passed :D One advisory 'Both front tyres worn on inside edge' which I knew about, tracking out a while ago caused the wear and I noticed it too late and damage was done.

Shame about the advisory though, last 4 MOT's had none 8)

She lives!!
Have just finished putting the head back on after a head gasket job and she fired up after a tantalising ( and long ) 8 seconds!! Why is it , that even after you have done these and similar jobs many times , there is always that dreaded thought that she may not go?You check , double check all the variables , connections , wires and pipes but still you are never quite sure that she will breathe again!!

Do the pro's still have that moment of doubt?

Hey ho , just need to finish off all the minor bits and then take her out for a drive to enjoy the fruits of my labours. :bounce: :bounce:

Good work Toby. Did you have any work done on the head while it was off?

Got the leak fixed yesterday from pipe going from waste gate to the exhaust so no more fumes in the cabin when sat in traffic. Then drove down to Oxford to see the folks. Car is quick but thoughts of more boost are already entering my head. Oh dear, think I may have the bug already! :D

This weekend I have installed a map switching switch as in the photo. I am now building up a relaxed map on it which so far is a lot smoother when coming off throttle (i got the fuel cut off when you slowing down working), smoother at idle and isnt randomly over fueling at idle. I also put bits in so if its cold you don't get any boost and over all the boost is much slower and lower at total. carefully leaning out the cruise sections so they are are nearer 14 and a bit AFR rather than richer.

Fitted a new high pressure PAS hose. Only to finish it and she won't start.
Battery I think as she hasn't been out for a couple of weeks.
Trickle charger coming tomorrow to fix that hopefully.
