 Post subject: Washer Motor Fitting

Hi guys , anyone fitted a new windscreen washer motor to a 993 , any tips ? Porsche as normal have left no slack in the reinforced pipe from the pump , so very tricky , plus its gone quite hard . What sort of a job is it to change the pipe complete , thus allowing me to get some slack . Any idea where I can buy some , at the right price ??

Funny you should say this. Mines dead on my 944. All blocked up with bits of pipe. Just ordered some new pipe from ebay as it's all perished. Going to be a pig of a job, (mine is 4mm internal dia'. Got 4m for a fiver.) Getting them off without damaging the rest of it. There all clipped on with metal clips on mine. Then the new pipe will hopefully soften in hot water & just push on. I also need to get the old resovoir out & clean the C**p out of it. Not sure if it will go past the headlight lift motor :?: Tried to do it on Saturday but it was too cold so just measured the pipe & ordered it. Good luck with yours :)

Its not that bad.
I think yours will be the same as my car.
The motor is on the main bottle behind the sh@t gaurd in the n/s wheel arch. Remove the gaurd (the hardest bit), 3 10mills drop the bottle, the pumps are on the bottle.
The got new pipe from the local aquarium, the air pipe stuff is the same size, and you can get new t-piece things as well.
Are you certain that its the motor?
The flow and return valves block up as well, there just under the washer jets.
Think ive got a spare bottle with both motors on it sumwhere.
Had mine in bits not long ago.

Check it is motor, take off the knurled cap on top of bottle in wheelarch. Check the little filter on end is not blocked(mine was). Put end into clean water and activate washers . If OK suggest take one of lower pipes off (behind the fog light on 3.2) and flush through with warm water. Mine was full of years of additive

just checked my washer bottle and there is a drain plug at the bottom of the bottle, so you should be able to flush straight through if your bottle is the same (mines an '88)

two motors sit side by side on the 993 sharing the same bottle , the hose is braided and no slack , and is crimped on to the pump . the pump is knackered as I checked it electrically and then cut the neck of the unit off with side cutters , removed the pump , which leaves me to cut the crimp , this will leave the pipe impossibly short to fit to the new pump (coming from Bert £18 ) The pump has been superceded , is now a 996 part and requires a new plug and socket arrangement (another work up , with now space to work in ) The pipe is braided plastic and crimped on everywhere , I thought if it was not to difficult it would be easier to renew the pipe to give me some slack , it is made a little easier as there are no lamp motors as the car has Litronics ( no headlamp levelling gear ) anyone any ideas for getting the pipe , it must be high pressure because of the braiding and the crimps?? Thanks for all your imput so far chaps.

Sounds the same as mine, 2 motors on the pump bottle, the steel clips ect.
I havent had any problems, ive only used the stuff from the local fish shop (aquarium).

Hadn't looked for a drain plug. Was cursing the metal clips that wouldn't come off with numb fingers. Got the pipe now so will try again!

got the pump and the connector (electrical) but no innards in the connector , they arrived today , got to get some new crimps for the pipes , tomorrow if I have time , fix it all up probably Monday :mrgreen:

All sorted , had to extend the wiring , fit new plug arrangement , extend the hose , assembled all , then tried it and blew the fuse !! checked it all through , blew the fuse ! took the pump off , tried again with the pump off , fuse remained intact . put a meter on the pump and got .8 oms, spoke to John Mitchell about something else and mentioned the pump , he suggested that he has had them 'sticky' if they have been on the shelf a while , suggested I flash it across the battery , that sorted it , now all fine . Thank you John :D :D
