Today I ......failed my MOT  I knew that the indicator self return was broken but didnt think this was an MoT failure. It also failed on the rear handbrake so that is a rear brake rebuild on the to do list as well as an indicator assembly swap out.

Worth checking the first point you mention. I sold my square dash last month and put a new, full MOT on it for the new owner and the left indicator did not auto cancel.

Ref the handbrake, someone had posted before on here or PCGB about applying the handbrake slightly and driving slowly. The theory being that the handbrake shoes dont get used often so glaze over. Can't vouch for if that's true, although can vouch that a couple of days after trying this my handbrake failed and car rolled down the drive in to the garage!

Odd though as it was in gear too plus the handbrake worked very well both before and after this indicent!!

Good luck with the re-test

Cheers
Andy

Clutch issue found to be ruined hydraulic system. Found a second hand but fairly new looking master cylinder with fresh flex pipe, reservoir and hose. Got a rebuild kit for slave and fresh fluid. The plastic on the back of the starter broke so trying to get a cheap replacement unit. Looking forward to getting her back on the road! Removing the old bits is pretty straight forward for any one looking to do this.

Cam and timing belt change, oil and filter done (by RSR £370.00), then to a local garage to have a rear brake pipe replaced that had been punctured by a trapped stone (£80.00) then a quarter tank of fuel (£50.00). Back home now to clean and polish before a romp out to Prescott tomorrow. It's a good job its free!!!

Even when I fill up my 944 from empty with Shell 97Ron it's only about £95. My fuel gauge is hopelessly inaccurate below the half mark. Maybe yours is too.

I decided to give the engine bay of my 944S a good clean up since the dead engine is now out.

I'm glad I did as I discovered that the expansion tank and washer bottle had been rubbing on the bodywork and had removed the paint which had then rusted.

I took those bits back to bare metal, treated them and then gave them a lick of primer. Just need some white paint to finish it off.

I'll probably upload some pictures later if anybody is interested.

No rust treatments or cam belt changes for me thankfully, just tightened up the front wheel bearings on the 968 and then out for a drive :)

I took mine out for a 70 mile drive on some favourite roads, blasting off the cobwebs after 3 weeks languishing in the garage waiting for sunshine. Then I gave it a good clean.

Now I'm trying to work out why the bugger won't start as want to put it back in the garage

I'm interested to see your 944S work in progress. I thought you had given up on it actually!

I've not done much to it really in the 2 years of ownership. I was going to break it but changed my mind and now it's going to be saved with the help of a friend and then it will live on as his car.

I've got a thread running on PH which started off as a thread about the lux but the last few posts have been about the S. Have a look if you have plenty of time on your hands! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... estoration

Did loads today now the car has passed the MOT :D

Cleaned the contacts on the window switches and lubricated the passenger side winder mechanism, tried and failed to fix the fuel gauge, started fitting rear inertia seat belts I Only found 3 mounting holes so I'm going to fabricate a bracket to fit the reels in the boot.
Tried fixing my headlights so they go down but some idiot has hacked the wires for the motor so I need a new one.

1) I hope you're only taking very small people in the back! Even though it's a 944 and that's amazing enough, I've still had passengers giving up trying to ride in the back.

2) How did you manage to pass the MOT with non-working headlight motors? Did you just leave them up constantly?

3) Any new pictures of your car? Your first picture is getting old!

I re-arranged the switches on the centre console to a more useable order: Nearest to me is the Rear wiper switch, then the sunroof, then mirror adjustment, then the central locking (which isn't fitted) but it's better than a gaping hole. I then did some investigation as to why I get no heat or cooling in the footwell from the fan. It's the solenoid !! just need to fathom which one it is 60 degree or 98 degree. I'll know better when I get around to taking it off. cost to replace: E-bay £20 - £32. From Porsche £276 + VAT Hmmmmm Decisions, decisions :dontknow:

I then decided to abandon the idea of re-instating the Porsche central locking system in favour of an aftermarket solution with an alarm replacement. This option is a hell of a lot cheaper and easier.
