Chopped and drilled front struts for Koni inserts, dropped them off for powder coating (Koni yellow), secured rattling rear back plate only to find something else is rattling.

I'll be taking my M030 Koni struts of at some point and treating then to a powder coating to. Just on of the many things on the 944 to do list!

I drove the 968 to work and back, but waiting for me when I got home was a parcel from Alasdair. So a new clock screen is now installed, which was actually really easy to do, a new black hazard warning switch (I didn't like the red one) and flasher relay. All working marvellously. It's the first time I've ever seen the light on in a 944/968 clock!

Over the last 2 days I have put my passenger side door back together - getting the handle on is a bit of a nightmare, had to take the window out twice to do this! Also, I have 2 wires hanging around that I'm not sure what they are for, one looks like a sensor made by Cherry and one is a 4 or 3 pin plug...I think they might be for the original alarm, which is not in use. Also, I'm wondering - the little black box on top of the door, next to the door pull pin thing, is this also something to do with the alarm? I had to cut the wires as I couldn't get the black box through the door pin hole, so I'm just wondering if I really need to connect this back up?

I have also sanded down and rust treated a few spots under the rear inner wing and I found a lovely rusty hole on the inner side of the quarter panel :( Will rust treat this also, paint it up with my fav POR 15, fibreglass, seam sealer and black stone chip will do the trick for a few years at least I hope.

Additionally, I took out the black interior panel that runs along the roof at the rear, as you can see from the photo it sags down in one spot and the lining is peeling off in places, so I'm planning to restore that and get it back into shape.

Phew!

The black box on the top of the door is for the red in LED in the lock knob, (also part of the original central locking or alarm!)

My roof panel looked like yours last weekend it had got wet from driving in the rain with the roof open when the heater stuck on fully hot. Removed it and just re-attached the lining with contact adhesive, I found spray vinyl glue would not hold it so good old Evo Stick was the answer.

I have had one of my apprentices cleaning up the engine bay of one of my S2's, its amazing how much the replacement of some rusty bolts and hose clips with new ones, some ally bits being cleaned and protected, along with some spit and polish transforms the under bonnet appearance. :)

Also noticed my white 86 Turbo has a tiny rust spot the size of a pin head on the bottom of one of the wings! Panic stations! So had my bodyshop pop out to quote removing that cancer before it spreads!

Bodyshop man was also I little shocked by me showing him about 5 of my other Porsche that need minor chips sorting. He commented that I had a lot of Porsche, I had to explain there are another 18 I own! :o I think he thought I was joking.

OK Jon, I think we need to see a list of all your cars. I'm not expecting a picture of each one, but it would be nice!

Ok, off the top of my head...

Porsche models in year of manufacture order
1980 924 Turbo - red (Bought this one about 7 years ago, now needs restoration)
1980 924 Turbo - Brown (Owned this one for MANY years, but hate the colour)
1981 924 Lux - red (Bought if off a friend who was hard up)
1984 924 lux - blue (bought it on a whim a couple of years ago, very good example)
1984 944 lux - silver auto - now breaking (bought it for the wheels that were on it)
1984 944 lux - silver - soon breaking (bought off of a customer for spares)
1985 924 lux - white (was a trade in years ago, never got around to selling it)
1985 944 lux - white (Bought it because it has an interesting plate A944FRU)
1986 944 Turbo - Alpine White (soon going up for sale)
1986 928 S2 - white - Last of the S2's with the S4 brakes and suspension
1986 944 Turbo - grand prix White (my baby with 70 something thousand miles, I love this one)
1988 944 Turbo Cup - silver (original TWR car to be restored to turbo cup spec again)
1989 944 Turbo - baltic blue
1989 944 Turbo - Previously known as LIL 3.2 (development car)
1989 944 2.7 auto Lux - burgundy Now breaking (previous owner insisted it was broken even though nothing was wrong with it)
1989 944 S2 - baltic blue (now being prepped to sell)
1990 944 S2 Cab - Black (should really sell it, I never have a chance to use it)
1991 944 S2 Cab - Black (see above, and I never feel comfortable in a cab!)
1991 964 Turbo body cabrio (roadster americana LHD)
1992 944 S2 - Cobalt blue (just sold)
1994 968 Sport - Red (soon to become 3.0 Turbo RS spec)
1994 968 Sport - Cobalt Blue (LHD)
1996 993 C2 - Iris Blue (about to have a respray)
1999 Boxster - Black (development car)

Oops, more than I thought!

Non Porsche

1998 BMW 325 TDS-SE Touring - My old barge, but for some reason I love it still - tuned to 200 bhp and upto 50mpg!
1996 Range Rover DSE - The dog and stuff hauler - not to mention emergency Cayenne rescue tow out of ditch machine!
1971 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 1 - Blue and Silver - (Inherited from my dad - a legacy and millstone to be kept and passed on to the kids)
1998 Mitsubishi Chariot - Blue and silver - (same as rolls royce! to be sold)

Company vehicles
1994 frieght rover recovery truck (about to be crushed)
1996 frieght rover recovery truck
1998 ford courier mobile workshop
2002 ford courier parts van
1996 VW Golf courtesy car (about to be retired and replaced with a smart car)
2003 Fiat Sporting courtesy car (about to be retired and replaced with a smart car)

We also have some other cars for sale, such as a 2006 Boxster S, but they are bought just to sell.

And I am about to buy a 1982 911 Turbo in red that we tuned a couple of years ago and needs a cosmetic restoration... and possibly a grey S2 to break up, even though it would break my heart!

I just can't help myself though.. I keep buying cars thinking "hmmm.. bargain.. use it, enjoy it, perfect it, sell it..." but I never like doing the selling bit.. I think I have a mental illness

Ideally, I would like to get down to one 924 Turbo (red one), one 944 Turbo (my beloved 86 white one), the rolls royce because its now a family legacy and then sell everything else and just buy a diesel Cayenne as the dog and stuff hauler as my personal cars.

Then for the business keep the vans, one recovery truck, a 944 Turbo dev car, a Boxster dev car, a 996 dev car and a 996 turbo dev car. This would seem sensible..

Unfortunately I am like one of these mad cat women with a million cats, but in my case, cars, mostly Porsche ones!!

Not bragging, its a millstone, really!!

Today I tried to troubleshoot the passenger door mirror, it looks like there is no power getting to the mirror at all (except for the defogger). I took the middle dash section apart to look at the wiring at the toggle switch and I found a 4 pin plug coming out of the toggle change switch unplugged. Looked for possible wires to connect it to, found 4 that had been cut, tried to connect them and move the joystick on the drivers door for the mirror adjustment but they started doing some really strange stuff, for example the central locking tried to work, the car made a really strange noise like it was trying to start almost, so decided those wires were for something else - maybe the alarm? and the central locking switch which was also disconnected and no plug in sight. Hate it when you find a previous owner has bodged something. found that from the 4 pin plug, 2 connections seem to be getting a live when the toggle swich is moved and the other two seem to work both mirrors at the same time. Looked at the wiring diagram for the mirrors, looked like the underground train map of tokyo and gave up.

I remember reading somewhere that the adjustment joystick also works on negative polarity so I think I need to do a bit more reasearch, maybe route some new wires through to the mirror. If anyone has any advice or explainations that would be great.

After dribbling uncontrollably over that list, I did think "where does he keep them all?"

Kat, sounds like you might have some redundant total closure wiring in that door from an old alarm system.

Re: my car collection.

Its a running joke with those that know me or work for me, that my collection is out of control, and I have vowed to reduce it, but in the last year I have only sold one and bought another 3 or 4.

I keep a few which need work, are projects or need scrapping at the workshop compound which holds about 40 cars, normally mostly customers ones, the rest are either at one of my Lockups or friend or family houses.

All of them have been bargains when I have bought them, but it is just crazy out of control now, expect some to appear for sale at some point, but I am so picky about the standard they need to get to before sale, it is never a financially viable option when I sell them.

With my old 968 CS, I turned down about 5 full advertised price buyers who wanted to own them, as I did not think they deserved it or "got it" or understood the car.. In the end I let a lady who seemed to be a 968 CS geek, who knew exactly how many right hand drive black ones were made, and who made the right noises about how to store her and use her before I let her go... Sometimes it is more like adopting out your own child than selling a car for me, stupid I know..

WOW Jon!

I knew you had a "good few" but that is an impressive list. Not just for the number but there are a few gems in that lot.

I will have to have a word with my misses as she thinks a 924 on top of the 944 and 968 is excessive!

Yes thanks for that Jon, have now explained to SWMBO that a 924 on a sorn, and a 968 used daily is not excessive car ownership! lol
