Let me start by saying this is not a rant. The guy who bought my 928 last weekend has sent me a text with a rather unfortunate set of circumstances that occurred during the night. :( He was due to get the train from Wales today and pick up the car. While I'm sure he will still buy the car, and eventually join this forum one day, what are my options? He has said that if I want to sell it to someone else, I can go ahead. However, I go on holiday on Monday (have I mentioned this to anyone  ), and won't be here to answer questions and allow inspections, never mind the re-listing fees. I got the MOT done and listed it immediately, if I wait until I come back it will only have 11 months MOT and 1 months tax. What would you do?

eBay have the "seller is away and may not respond to your emails" message on auctions if you need it.
Did you have many questions the first time?
Can you put a friend in charge of the auction? i.e. use their eBay account or give them your password (you can always change it on your return).

Hi Alex, I did have a bit of interest the first time round. 50% of the questions and requests were from the guy who bought it, so I though it was a good sign? There was a guy who wanted me to drive it to the south of France and deliver it, all expenses paid up front, but I thought it was a scam. He phoned, sent emails and text messages though. I just wanted the car to go to a good home and a simple transaction for the money.

Hi Lee

eBay is a pain in the arse. If it helps you can do a "request from seller to cancel transaction" where you both mutually agree to back out and you can then get your fees refunded!

Hope this helps, good luck with the sale :)

Back from holiday and not a peep from the guy? He has an iPhone and I can see he got the iMessage, but hasn't replied. I do hope his circumstances haven't deteriorated and he still wants to buy the car, but it is frustrating waiting to find out what is going on.

Lee I hope I'm wrong but it does sound as if the prospective "buyer" will also tell you the dog ate his homework...

I've sent more text messages and emails today, still no reply. You've no idea how disappointed I am. I love the car and the chap appeared to be a real enthusiast who want to continue with the cosmetic works. I spoke to him by phone, emailed and sent text messages before the sale and it was all positive. Even the days after the sale, I spoke to him and he seemed quite excited. The next highest bidder was £700 less than his bid!!!! I've got so much on at home and work, I don't need this extra hassle. If he would now just reply back and give me a definitive yes or no, I could move on and accept my losses with the sale. :(

It's hassle you can do without!

I'd write him off, apply to have your fees refunded and relist. The ad is good, the car looks spot on for the money - It's the luck of the draw with eBay and maybe she'll do better this time?

Good luck Lee :albino:

So the second chance offer guy doesn't want it, so it looks like it will be re-listed tomorrow. :(

How can you not want something you've bid on, and been offered a lower price?

I wish I knew Alex, if he'd just answer an email, text or eBay message I might have a clue?

I've tried hard not to rant Ken, I had a previous incident with an employee who had been admitted to hospital between Christmas and New Year without me knowing, when he didn't return after the holidays I left a voicemail on his mobile telling him he was fired. I was ever so glad to get his mobile phone before he got out of hospital.

The buyer claimed a very dire family circumstance as his reason for not coming to get the car, and part of me thinks that if I get very short with my messages I'll regret it. On the other hand, do I sound like a push over? The problem is, with the week of the auction, then the week to collect the car on top of my 2 week holiday, the car only has 11 months MOT left. :(

I genuinely admire your decency Lee..., not to mention diplomacy/tolerance, very hard commodity to come by in these modern times.
Hopefully something will materialise in your favour, I sincerely hope so

Good luck.,

Ken.

One final attempt at selling it. I'm going to list it on eBay with no reserve this time. I've had a few phone calls, emails and text messages from various people, but no one turned up to even see it? It is heart breaking, watching such a good car not getting the attention it deserves. :(
