Hi Mark :)

I am sure Jon Mitchell will be along to answer this....

He did a BRILLIANT job on my 928 when a rear pipe corroded away....

This is the pipe that you are MEANT to drop the rear suspension to change, but he uses the later white nylon pipe that bends (so no dropping the suspension) with special brass fittings that join back on to the main metal pipes....

He did a really really good job and that was a couple or three years ago and not a single drop leaked since....

All the best Brett :)

Thanks Brett :)

The standard factory pipes are made of steel and rust at an alarming rate.

We replace them with nylon based, fuel resistant pipe, as used on all modern cars, which does not rust.

We also use fittings designed for modern Porsche models to join the nylon sections to steel sections, which means we can just replace a section (back to where the original pipe is good) or all the way to the flexible fuel hoses at each end (which is a bit more involved, but ultimately means you have nothing to ever rust again.

Having said that, for the last 10 years, every 928 fuel pipe we have seen has always rusted in the same places, we see something similar with the 911's and 944's (also 924 and 968), as they each have places that the original coating becomes blasted away, which also means salt and rain is directed at the same locations, so even the ones where we have just replaced a section will probably never need the rest doing.

We do not tend to do it as a kit, but instead we normally custom fit them in the workshop, however I should really develop it into a kit for each model and sub model.

If you really can't get it down to us, we may be able to make a one off universal kit for you for mail order.

The benefits over the original pipes is

1 they do not rust again
2 they are cheaper than the originals
3 the originals often require removal of the suspension and other parts, in some cases even the fuel tank!

Glad yours are still giving you good service Brett, god knows how long they will last, in theory the pipe should be good even in 50 years and brass is used for the connectors for the same reason (will not corrode, ever) so, in theory, I don't think any 928 with our pipes will ever need replacement!

Hi Jon :)

You mentioned removal of parts but didnt mention how quick you were to do mine with that white pipe....

Instead of around 4 hours ish to drop the suspension, you did it in under an hour and that included a cuppa lol....

I was a Pro Race mechanic for a lot of years and even I was impressed...not just in the time saving but in the forethought and ingenuity in knowing it would work....

All the best Brett :)

Thank you Brett and Jon, i must admitt i had seen some plastic pipe at my local motor factors. Its black and works up to 10 psi and its not that expensive. I was going to use jubilie clips, but if i can get brass ones id use them.

Jon im in Hertfordshire if i came down to you, what would it cost for the parts? and parts inc fitting?

If you prefure you can email me at mark1carpenter@gmail.com

Regards Mark

Hi MARK :)

Umm that Ebay pipe has no pressure rating I can see and you would need a pressure rating of at least 100 psi or higher...

It looks like bog standard fuel pipe for a carb car, which normally run at 3 to 5.5 psi....NOT 40 to 50 psi like a 928....

Any pipe like that, that says you can fit with a Jubilee clip is wrong for a high pressure injection system like yours...

Jon will no dobut answer this later for you...

But please dont use any pipe you are not technically sure of as if it blows apart and sprays fuel at 40 psi, right next to a very hot exhaust system, you will burn the car to the ground... :(

All the best Brett :)

Brett, if you click on the size, i put 10mm. It says its ok at 300psi and they do the brass fittings. I was hoping to hear from Jon.
Thanks for you input, i would never fit anything that wasnt up to the job

All the very best Mark
