DAS Polisher Guards Red 944

Post by andyjgal »

Finally going to bite the bullet and buy a kit to try and make my oxidised paint look better on a Guards Red 944. Having looked about I had this kit recommended.
The bonnet will need sprayed at some point, but takes the look away from the car.

Has anyone used this type of kit and what were the results? Or what have you done.

Also, anyone in Glasgow area done this, may need help as a novice!

Hi andy,
After my Guards Red Turbo was away for 5 months last year (for sale but fortunately NOT) It really need some TLC on the paint front when I got it home.
I purchased a bottle of Meguires Ultimate compound which really restored the dull Red into somewhere near its proper hue! Took a while on elbo grease but could be worth you trying this 1st before spending £180
(I do have an orbital Polisher, £12 from Aldi but used the manual elbow grease method and was pleased with the results)

Clive,
Tried the Ultimate with an orbital but didn't make a dent. It was lovely and shiny though!

Oh dear sounds like a bit more work than on mine is required ? Tcut  although I would check what paint thickness there is before going too drastic, still if you are going to get the bonnet resprayed sometime it's probably worth a try anyway. Good luck.

i have been told by a painter not to use Tcut on modern 2 pack paint as it contains amonia which makes the paint fade quicker. dont know if its true.
try G3 cutting compound then a good polish

Shame the ultimate compound didn't work.

Having tried t-cut (horrible to use and a waste of time) I used the ultimate compound on my black 944. Applied by hand, although hard work, it did an amazing job removing scratches, bad swirls and oxidisation and put depth back in the shine.

I was sceptical about the claims about this stuff, but have to say it did an excellent job fixing the type of paint problems I had.

Sean,
Sort of milky pink! I have taken a few pics and will upload, but the sun was an issue.
Buying machine this weekend to do next week.

Not the best, but some indication of the bonnet.

No machine will sort out paint that has lost its pigment, It is hard to tell from the pictures.

What about a second hand bonnet, you should be able to get a good red one cheaper than paying for paint. :?:

Good idea Sean, I take it it is relatively straightforward to do.
Will post a message and see where it goes.
