I've posted it hear as the "All Torque" part of the forum seems relitively inactive.

Don't know if everyone else has their copy yet but I notice the club logo in the bottom left hand side of the cover has changed to include a silhouette of an old 911. It is just me that thinks this is a bit off for a club that includes all models? I can't help thinking that this might potentially put off a new owners of 914, 924, 928, 944, 968, Boxster etc. What does everyone else think? Am I just being a bit arsey because I don't particularly like the 911?

In fact didn't the club start out as a 924 and 944 owners club?

I know this has probably been discussed at great lengths at the AGM or somewhere but I missed it.

I can't help but agree, and certainly ironic that the club started as a 944 club. However, the 911 shape is likely the most iconic Porsche shape. Would any potential new Porsche owner recognise the silhouette of a 944?

The Club logo was well overdue a refresh and we looked at several options. A top line is a bit of a cliche for a logo but it is clean simple and does work well.

The 911 top line is instantly recognisable as being a Porsche. The front engined top line looks like A N other coupe. The 917 was my favourite but not obvious enough.

We are and always will be an all model Porsche Club. :)

I agree that the logo needed an update and like the simple single colour scheme. However I still don't see why it had to be a 911 or any other model. Why could it not have been something without any reference to any model.

And I think the front engined silhouette doesn't look just like A N other coupe. The old 944 register logo was instantly recognisable as a 944.

It's very modern and original...... or is it.

Reading through the (as usual) excellent All Torque one finds the same style logo used for Gmund Collection, Pro-9, Hartech, Only9nine.

I have to agree about the 911 thing. The logo implies that the 944 owner is an inferior being - exactly the same as Porsche Club GB implies.... which is why I thought TIPEC was set up in the first place (ask Barry Hartech - he did it).

Have you (the committee) considered running a competition to design a new logo that is acceptable to all owners - even us poorer 944 owners, and dare I even mention 924 owners....

Maybe a t-shirt for a prize.

I'm one of those who likes the 911 by the way, however in response to Sean's scathing remarks (said in jest  ) about the 'also ran' Porsche silhouettes - I think the chosen top-line looks a bit like a Hyundai Coupe!

The new logo is more modern looking, the 911 as a logo is a cliche but it does shout Porsche.

The old logo was a mess, out of date in 1998 let alone 2012.

How does the logo imply that the owner of a 944 or any other model is enferior? Most 911 models could be considered inferior when compared to the legendary '73 RS.

The Club was started by a splinter group from PCGB within a few years the Club welcomed all models. The 944 Register within PCGB is huge, bigger than our entire Club.

There were no objections to the logo at the AGM. It looks great on the regalia and looks awesome on the new Club Flags that are being printed.

Maybe it is time that we have registers if people feel that they need to belong?
Personally I like the fact that we treat all Porsches equally and park cars as they arrive at our events and mix up all the models.

Sean,
I'll say again that I agree the logo did need an update, but the vast majority of members didn't attend the AGM and this is the first time we've seen it. Generally I like the style of the logo I'm just don't think the 911 outline is suitable and I don't think it should be a 944 outline or any other model. Why wasn't a generic Porsche logo chosen? And as JW590 says it does look very like several specialists logos.

I also don't think talk of model registers is helpful. My point is exactly the opposite. I thought the club welcomed everyone irrespective of the model they own into one group. I don't particularly want to be a member of a 944 or 968 owners club, nor do I want to be in a 911 owners club or what appears to be one.

The only trouble with that, is it doesn't say what it is. No-one but us knows what TIPEC is.

I think with all changes like this, it is ultimately a compromise bringing together the majority opinions. I don't really mind what it looks like, certainly not enough to get indignant about it.

The Clubs name was agreed by Porsche, after the threat of legal action when it changed from the 924/944/968 Club.

We suffer from an identity crisis because whenever anyone refers to us they use TIPEC which means nothing to the rest of the Porsche Community. We have all heard people say, I did not know the Club existed. Despite our presence online, in magazine advertising and all the National events.

I wanted to change the name and take on Porsche, unfortunately I was in the minority. Everyone agreed we needed to change the name but wanted to keep Independent and Enthusiast in the title. So back to where we were. :?

We are not allowed to use the Porsche font or the crest and we know using a text only logo will not solve the identity issue. A Classic Porsche shape was the logical solution.

I agree with you about the registers, the last thing we need :)
