Why are people who say they want to buy cars , complete timewasters without the funds to buy

Can i say to everyone who is thinking of buying a car , dont waste the buyers time , check your bank account first

Rant over

Hi Mike :)

I was offered a second chance offer on another 928 a couple of days ago for precisely that reason as the winner "didnt have the funds at the moment"

I didnt take up the offer as the seller put it back on the Bay at a lower price thatn my second chance offer, so sometimes its both buyer and seller at fault....

I can never understand why people like that bid.....I always have pound notes actually waiting....

All the best Brett :)

The first question I ask is "can you afford to pay the asking price for my car". That usually puts off the scroats :)

Surely if you can't even afford to buy it, you can't begin to afford to maintain it.

That's where a lot of people go wrong sadly.

They have a few spare K and buy the dream car, with no thought for onward maintenance. Belts, discs, pads and a service is a typical list for the 1st trip to the menders and a heart attack at the £1500 bill.

I suspect this is/was aimed at me!

Mike, I got in touch with Colin a few weeks ago to discuss the 944S2. I had looked at quite a few and was ready to buy the right car. I chatted with Colin about the ins and outs and made a plan to go and see him/the car. However, slightly ahead of expected schedule came a quite kurt demand that I settle the (sizeable) bill for a the funeral service of a family member, for whom I was/am the executor of the will.

Although I suspect they wouldn't have set about digging her up had I not paid, I felt these things needed tying up before I started buying Porsches! Essentially, my '944 fund' became 'funeral fund' for a very short while. I called off my visit - ironically because I didn't want to waste his time!!

I think Colin will confirm that I couldn't have been more apologetic for the delay.

Anyway, I am now the extremely proud owner of what I consider to be the finest S2s that I've ever seen (the Holmes' and others have done her proud) - all be it with a little unfortunate delay! I just wanted to reply to this thread as the car is extremely recognisable and I would like to become an active member of the club - without anyone considering me a 'scroat', 'complete timewaster' or a daydreamer without the funds to keep her running!

I'll hopefully meet some of you gents in person at some events, even at the otherside of a couple of £1500 bills

Stephen

Excellent news Steve. Perhaps you just encountered a really disappointed seller.

I too have suffered from these timewasters, all enthusiasm over the phone, book to view then never turn up. A Porsche doesn't cost that much more to run than an average large family car. Sure there are servicing and repair bills and the tyres cost a bit more, but it's around the same cost as a 3 series BMW in my limited experience with my 968 (I've also got a 3 series BMW) and no, I'm not skimping on having any jobs done. Ask Wright Tune in wallingford, they do it all for me. :D

If I was good with the spanners then I could reduce the costs further but running a Porker won't ever be as cheap as the X plate Mondeo I had, which apart from the scheduled services, never needed anything doing to it, not even brake pads.

I like to have a moan too sometimes. lol
Maybe they are just dreamers then realise reality, who knows why people waste time! everyone has to start somewhere I guess and we all make our mistakes. The guy that I bought my old 70s wolfrace wheels from said he has had all sorts of stupid requests from people on ebay. For example, someone asked if he could polish them up before purchase etc! what a joke! lol I have polished 2 of them myself now, they are not mirror finish although they do look lovely and I can't wait to get them fitted to my van but hell, it's hard work.

They are now all done! Check'm out! The one in the bottom left is half done but I finished it today! and the one in the bottom right I have started to paint the inserts white and I will do that with all of them. Yeay...now comes the problem of sourcing Centre Caps and Studs, as I'm going nuts all round :)

Well, I found out after polishing the wheels that they are the wrong PDC, 127 and my van is 112. So, I guess the seller, after complaining how ebayers are pratts...is a pratt himself as he did advertise them to fit a Type 25. I wish pratts had a flashing sign above their heads that said 'PRATT'.
