Hi All,

Having recently bought a 1990 928 S4 and having no proper history just wondered if I should have the timing belt changed its done 65,000 miles. I think its going to be expensive any ideas on cost?

Thanks

Hi
A BIG YES! :D
Its the first thing i had done on my S4 when i bought it as the tension light was coming on when changing gear <manual> at high revs even though a porsche dealer had done the belt 2000 miles and 3 years previous
I took it to a porsche specialist in N devon who did a great job and rebuilt the oil filled tensioner which they told me did,nt look as if it had been touched for many years  motto dont assume porsche dealers know 928s whereas Braunton garage do know the cars as the mechanics own two inc a 928 gt
Cheers Grahame

Hi :)

Mileage doesnt matter with a 928 cambelt/pump....

The general rule is ...DO IT EVERY 4 YEARS.... and you will have no more problems with it...

All the best Brett :)

Hi :)

Yes ..lol

An S4 has 32 valves and IS an inteference engine.....

You REALLY dont want to find out how many of those 32 you will bend....

If you are even slightly unsure when belt and pump were last done....do them NOW ...

All the best Brett :)

He is referring to the water pump, which is a very expensive item. Genuine Porsche water pump is about £600.

There are cheaper alternatives but you will be gambling.

As a general rule when changing the cam belt replace the water pump every other change.
