Been at Porscheshop today so they could investigate a noise for me - turned out to be torque tube bearing whine so I have another job to add to the list

More importantly I had Mark check the flex plate whilst I was there and there was about 2.5mm of forward movement so I thought it worth posting a reminder
to folk to make sure this gets checked at the annual service

Well worth doing, I like to check the crank end play too, as recently discussed on the 928 UK list. I'll just pop a few pictures of mine up here, so anyone who hasn't checked theirs know what they are looking for.

Porsche recommend that a new bolt be used when the plate is released, and also that the torque be 10% above the original quoted in the workshop manual.

Thanks, I didn't know about the pinch bolt needing replaced. I'll order one for next time.

One thing I will say is, when you feel a bit of movement in the crank, your heart sinks. I was convinced mine was a lost cause and measured it several times. To my friends dismay, I had 4 Mercedes mechanics helping me measure my crank end play and no one working on paying customers cars.

It turned out my play was only 0.28 of a millimetre, but it felt like half a cementer when I moved it. After repeated checking, the brains of the operation came to the conclusion that because of the lever you use, your hand will travel quite far, so it will feel like it has moved further than it has.
