How do you replace bulbs on the SIDELIGHTS please?

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to replace sidelight bulbs (have just replaced the headlight ones - 15 slow minutes! mainly prising off the lighting housing!!!!).

Anyway, the sidelights have initial philips screws on EITHER side of the middle light housing. These enable you to pull out TWO small pieces but not the MAIN housing.

Is it a case of just undoing every screw you can see?

Help greatly appreciated.

Another quick point - my brake fluid cable is worn through slightly with small tear (2mm) (its a blue rubber one covered in protective nylon(?)).

Finally oil top up - as the cold weather is here I have just put one litre of 5/30W fully synthetic - on the advice of another forum - is that OK??

There are 4 (usually rotten) screws which hold on the fog light unit, assuming you have S2 or turbo. If they don't unscrew, and you will be very fortunate if they do, you will need to drill the heads off and then work out how to get the other bits out the plastic housing. This will involve ingenuity and much swearing! You then have access to sidelight, full beam and fog lights. Re assemble with copper slipped stainless screws so the next time is a breeze! Then repeat for other side, a full day should do it!

Paul, are you sure the blue hose is the brake? On my 944 the blue is from the clutch slave cylinder and the brakes are white. It would help if you gave a bit more detail as to what Porsche model you have, year etc

If the sidelights only have two screws in the middle I would suspect not a turbo or S2 but still a pain to get out as usually rusty.

Blue pipe would seem to be clutch rather than brake, the clutch reservoir is on the left at the back and the brake on top of the master cylinder on the right as you look in the engine bay, the clutch hose is often worn or leaking.

5W30 seems a little thin 5W40 or 10W40 more in line with what others use but depends on age, model and usage but as a top up anything is better than letting it get too low.

I have (actually I bought it for my g'friend !!!) a Metallic (Panther ??) Black 944 S2 Cabriolet 'J' Reg 1991.

The cable is from the brake fluid reservoir. (Driver's side RHD)

Like I mentioned before from memory the reservoir you are describing is the clutch one the brake is above the servo on the right side when you look in i.e. passenger side (RHD) at least this is how my S2 and 924S are/were.

Thank you to all who replied.

Strange thing: the small fluid reservoir at the back of the engine near the drivers side is white/cream cylinder reservoir with a black screw top and says BRAKE FLUID. This is not the main brake fluid on the right as you look in the engine bay.

The blue hose is worn and split from this small reservoir and resulted in zero fluid in the reservoir with a clutch pedal soft and sticking!

Topped up small fluid reservoir with clutch fluid dot4...clutch and clutch pedal now fine.

Why does the small cylindrical reservoir have 'brake fluid' on the black screw top?

The clutch master cylinder cap (black, as you correctly say). Both the hydraulic clutch and brake systems use the identical operating fluid, ie brake fluid - hence the confusion...
The damaged hose obviously should be replaced asap, then the system bleed with new juice...
