Hi all, i picked up a cheap 944 convertible a couple of weeks ago, it had just had a new head gaskit, belts etc, but it runs cool, i have fitted a new thermostat (80c), and it still barely gets past quarter way on the temp gauge, so i guess there is a air lock in the system. is this a common fault and is there a easy fix.

Are you entirly sure the gauge is reading accurately...?

i believe it is. the best i get from the heater is nearly warm air. and thats if the car is standing. if i turn the fan on, the air soon blows cold.

A normal thermostat is 88c AFAIK. Does your radiator fan run a lot?
If only we could swap your over cooling for my over heating, we might have two good cars!

Mine is like this although I think my heater is working fine. I was looking to replace the temp sensor first.

HI, just spent ages flushing clean water through the system, now it runs even colder! new stat is 80c, it seems some cars run an 87c stat so i have orderd one.
fans come on and go off correctly it seems!
Head gaskit is fine, what temp stats are other members using?

Is it possible (input from other's needed here) that your temperature gauge is just wrong? Temperature sender maybe? What's wrong with it running cool? If the temperature gauge does increase a bit, and the fans operate, it's clearly reaching 80-90c, which I though was ideal.

maybe i have been wrong when i say running cool, its the heater running cool but the temperature gauge never gets to the midway position, i guess i should replace the temp sender and see if that alters the needle position, but that still wont give me warm air.

I had not thought of that, i'm guessing one end is at the back of the heater control panel and the other at a valve some where, but where?

The valve is on a small hose near the firewall in the engine bay.

The cable is (apparently) accessed from the passenger footwell.
